Attempted Robbery On Harbour Road
Last night [Jan.25] a member of the public came to the aid of a woman when two men attempted to rob her on Harbour Road in Paget.
The victim — a 29-year-old woman — was riding a motorcycle along Harbour Road when two men on another motorcycle rode alongside her. The suspects attempted to take the woman’s handbag, a struggle ensued, however a passing motorist came to the her assistance, chasing the assailant who fled on foot empty handed.
A police spokesperson said, “Around 8:30pm on Wednesday January 25th, police on mobile patrol along Harbour Road were alerted to an attempted robbery in the area of Valley Road in Paget.
“It appears that a 29 year old Southampton woman was riding a motorcycle along Harbour Road when two unknown men on another motorcycle rode alongside her. The pillion passenger reportedly got off the suspects’ motorcycle and accosted the victim.
“A struggle ensued, with the assailant attempting to take the woman’s handbag. A passing motorist came to the victim’s assistance, chasing the assailant who fled on foot empty handed. Police searched the surrounding area; however the suspects were not located. The victim received relatively minor injuries.
“The main suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’7” tall of average build, wearing a red and white rain jacket. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011,” concluded the police.
An email circulating today said to be written by the victim in warning to other locals says, “Last night on my way home I was attacked & pushed off my bike on Harbor Road (near the Lower Ferry terminal) coming back from gym at around 8:20pm.
“I noticed that a bike was travelling really close to me for a while and slowed down thinking they wanted to pass me, however on a stretch of the road when no-one was around they decided to drive into me.
“The guy on the back of the bike jumped off their bike and onto me, knocking me and my bike onto the road. Thank goodness they decided to do this in front of a driveway and not a wall, otherwise I could have been really hurt.
“Terrified, I got up and started screaming for help, the guy grabbed my neck and shouted at me to stop screaming and the guy on the bike stayed slightly in front of us both.
“I ran into the road still screaming and luckily a few seconds later a car come down the road in the opposite direction and stopped. The guy on the bike sped off and the guy who attacked me, started running down the road. The guy from the car that stopped tried to chase him, but he got away.
“I was not hurt, other than a few bruises & scrapes on my legs, and they didn’t manage to steal anything, but it was a terrifying experience and it will take a while to be ok to drive in the dark on my own. I’m just grateful that the car came when it did and that they stopped and helped me.”
The email concluded by saying, “Irrespective of where you are driving if you are alone at night be aware of what is around you & if anyone is following you. These occurrences seem to be happening more frequently in Bermuda – its sadly not the safe place it used to be.”
My girl will insert a knitting needle neatly in their eyeball…beware punks.

But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
If you don’t attempt to rob me, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you do!!!, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will beat the living crap out of you gangster.

only if they find the body!
Ladies please be careful. It’s time to make sure you are secure and safe when traveling at night. These little punks are cowards and they prey on those see as a non-threat, but always protect yourselves so carry what you need to carry. It’s time for action!
Do we have a description of the criminals sought? Age black, white, or shall I guess.
The police description said, “The main suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’7” tall of average build, wearing a red and white rain jacket.”
Absolute cowardly scum. Sadly typical these days to see two (or more) grown men physically assaulting a lone female. Hope they’re proud of themselves.
Police Dept. Be fore-warned as I promise, I myself will be arrested for assault and battery should this happen to me. I will have absolutely NO PITY as I am beating the S**T out of these punk kids. I actually want to SLAP their parents for raising such idiotic children.
I’ll be going to their funeral and pissing on their grave!
LMAWTFO!!!!!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!
Where do the laws in Bermuda stand on women being able to have devices easily accessible for situations like this? We should not be restricted from protecting ourselves and so I would like to know if we can push to import these products.
Kim,
Take up knitting.
Neatly tuck your ball of yarn and two needles in your bag where you can easily reach it.
It’s time to arm up.
@ Kim you’d be amazed at what a good spray of baygone to the face can do….and they sell it all stores!
Ironic isn’t it. The lowlifes can arms themselves to the teeth while innocent women will get severely punished if they have a can of mace.
Both the suggested are good but a bit difficult to carry on person. One can purchase a small 2.5 inch empty spray bottle at the pharmacy. Get a bottle of the hottest tabasco sauce you can find ones with skin irritant warnings on back are best & fill the empty bottle 75% of the way with that & fill rest of the way with crushed thai peppers close & shake. May want to use rubber gloves when doing this. If ever questioned by police about concoction its a salad topping for lunch. Be mindful that if any type of deterrent needs to be easily accessible so it may be good to invest in a small pouch with a snap button flap sew it on bike seat at reach distance & have another pouch that goes on belt or purse strap. Don’t wait to reach for protection at last minute if someone even appears suspicious get it ready. This may be obvious but don’t have a purse slung across back, in basket our on one shoulder when riding or walking. Always put purse around your neck & hang it in front of you if its too heavy for that you need to lighten it or a smaller purse & a bag with less valuable stuff can go in basket or under seat. If you have a collar or jacket cover the purse in front with it. Other things are wear sneakers on bike not high heels & wear sweatpants or shorts under skirts & dresses.
All good suggestions but with helmets on it won’t do much good. I am wondering about spray paint (not that it would be easy to get to in an attack) but it would mess up their view… and leave a mark all over the helmet… and even their body… might help to identify. More suggestions would be welcome and helpful.
Doesn’t really help that the government has let half of the streetlights stay burnt out
Keep your eyes/ears peeled everyone, I know I’ll be purposely taking Harbour road from now on and keeping a very close lookout for anything unusual
@ Franklin before you speak know that facts about the street lights. They are not OWNED or operated by the government.
Please elaborate
Call BELCO
My phone is broken
Email Telco
Telco (or BTC as it is now known) does not own the poles, we rent space on the poles from BELCO, which owns them. Please call BELCO.
Duh @BTC employee! Finally left! told Franklin to “Email Telco” to have the phone fixed not to fix the lights! Sheesh buh!
BELCO does not government
I work for BELCO and wanted to set the record straight. Government does own the Island’s streetlights, and Government brings in the lamps and other equipment. BELCO crews install the lamps and equipment for Government. You can reach me at smsmith@sigma.bm, if you have questions.
Do you or anyone else know how someone can contact the department in government that services & changes the street lights? Since BELCO only installs the lamps & equipment we need someone to direct our questions to keeping our streets lit at night.
Lack of bulbs and equipment has caused delays in work. However, as BELCO crews do the work, we also schedule the work. Please send an email to info@belco.bm, detailing where the lights are that you are concerned about. Then, our work planner can add them to the list.
Name on reply above should be Susan McGrath-Smith, not Been There …
Thanks, will contact BELCO but if what you’ve typed is correct & government is slipping in bulb supply this matter needs to be brought to them. Having dark streets is not only a danger because of the advantage it gives predators its also a threat to pedestrians who may be ran over because of this.
So in my opinion the lack of bulbs etc are because the goverment have no money, because if they did we would not be in the situation we are now in…so Susan how can I get in touch with your work planner ? and how long is your list ?
So Susan, who do I call when street lights are out ? I call Belco they tell me to call works and engineering I call them and they say the lights are on order…I then wait for months and call Belco and they want me to and look for the number on the pole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why should I have to do this ?
Can we get Theresa Perozzi to do a sting for us!? Let them pounce on her and POW!!!! How tough are your boyz going to think you are crumpled in a heap? hahaha
Disgusting behaviour and terrifying.
Why don’t the police set up a “bait” bike rider. She can be a female cop with a weapon.
Sorry this lady had to experince these ” NO GOOD, SCUMBAG, BULLIES ! THE LAW HAS TO GET to WORK ! Why should anyone not beable to ride at night, simply because of bad eggs like these, not fair to the general public ! Catch them and wimp their a$$….. I beleive in BPS and know that they will put an end to the disruption that is harmimg our Bermuda and our people !
Why is there no facial description of these guys? Are they wearing tinted visors & if so what happened to that law that was to be put in place?
Ladies, go for the balls if you can…..kicked hard enough it will hurt them!
It’s all part of the plan.
Someone must get what I am saying.
Special Branch, you read this stuff?
We need a super hero! A vigilante in these times!
Fingers in the eyeballs, very painful, followed by clapping either side of the head, breaks the eardrums & very painful, then, for good measure, a knee between the legs, at least once just to be sure.
That should leave a crumpled heap on the road that will never try to seal again.
Someone out there knows exactly who owns. Red and white rain jacket and has the build of this individual. Come on ppl….turn this dude in!
There need to be street lights and cameras installed make it happen
T.J. the gov can not afford to replace the street lights that out now !!!we are in bad shape … our st lights have been for three months !!!just take a drive around bda at night ans see how dark it is some areas.
Just wonder if any rapists or muggers have been released lately from Westgate, Prison Farm or MAWI?
Unbelievable! Sickens me to read this. Glad she wasn’t hurt real bad but she will be scarred for life from the experience.
You guys just don’t know. I might just panic and accidently be up for murder in self defense, cause I’m scared of being attacked. So think before you act!!!!
Got 4 bats stationed round my house. Just waiting for the next peckerhead to try and break in on my family. Caught the last one, but not enough damage inflicted before the cops arrived and he was out in 3 months after wounding us and being sentenced to 3 years – and already had MULTIPLE convictions.
They are breeding more of these scumbags as we speak! Two elephant beers and 3 minutes is all it takes
Don’t forget the willing female.
Ladies check Reuben Bean (jiketsu@northrock.bm) for self defense classes. Be prepared.
Any man who resorts to this has no respect for his own mother or sisters (if he has any). The month end is nearing and someone’s rent is due. Perhaps he has two little mouths to feed and his pay is just not cuttin’ it! Rotten scumbags!
@Get Real – I’ll bet that the excuse for this attack has nothing to do with anything as noble as feeding starving children. More likely to feed a drug habit.
Any punk tries to touch me I will leave their body decomposing in pieces. Anyone touches my wife, they will beg in tears that I kill them. If I catch any punk touching a woman, I will break every bone in their arms, legs, ribs, etc.
If I see any punk touch a Filipino or foreigner or child, I will cut off their hand and make them eat it, then eat their feet.
You punks better go back to your momma-land where you can all live in your savage monster ways. Get the hell out of my country.
WOMEN!!!! Arm yourselves!! Baygon, Pocket Knives, Go to self defense Classes Its time!!! i am so ready to F*&K a Criminal UP!!!!
Sick of this BS!!! ;/
A small purse size container of hair spray is a good defence as my Mom always told me to carry …spray into eyes and face !
If that hair spray isn’t in your hand, it’ll be of no use to you if you were being attacked. If I was riding alone at night, I would never slow down to allow anyone behind me to pass. I’d go like a bat out of hell if I noticed anything suspicious…I’d blast my horn while doing so!
Sorry to the lady who was attacked by these two cowards but they will attack the wrong person next time and get the shock of their lives if the person happens to be an off duty cop for example. As a mother of a young teenage son on a bike I worry about his safety each time he goes out at night I advise him to travel on middle road where possible. Stay safe every one!
