Minister Minors Commends Businesses

January 10, 2012

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Patrice Minors commended local companies, Butterfield Fulcrum Group (BFG) and the MEF Group for their “demonstrated commitment to hiring Bermudians and supporting the local economy.”

Recently Butterfield Fulcrum announced that it’s currently in the process of hiring 12 new employees, while the MEF Group said they hired around 80 Bermudian employees over the course of 2011.

This, according to Minister Minors, is “very encouraging news”, particularly in light of the “challenging economic climate.”

Minister Minors said, “Far too often lately, we’ve witnessed the regular reports of job losses, so it’s very encouraging when we hear good news about Bermudians being hired.

“As such, I thought it important to publicly commend both Butterfield Fulcrum and the MEF Group, as they have not only been consistent with their recruitment efforts, but quite successful as it relates to hiring Bermudians.

“They are leading by example, and I think it’s important to point out that it’s in everyone’s best interest to hire more Bermudians as our collective role in employing Bermudians is critical to the sustainability of not only our economy, but our Country overall.”

The Minister concluded, “For our part, the Department of Labour and Training is moving forward with our plans to implement the One Stop Career Centre. And our work continues to educate and assist individuals to adapt to the new realities of the Bermuda economy and the employment opportunities that are available.”

What are the other companies that continue to hire many Bermudians through 2011 and 2012….. Mud?

Minister Minors should ask how many Bermudians BFG has made redundant in 2011. Has she? Has she?……….NO, NO, NO! BFG is just laying it so that they can sell the company to some suchaaa in 2012.

I believe the hotel industry hired around 80 Bermudians as well. But of course, no one commented on that story.

    Keep it up BFG!!!!!!

Not surprising that Butterfield Fulcrum is hiring – they’re winning significant business globally.

We should check how many successful expat work permits are not being renewed in the hospitality business. It’s a shame because they are the ones keeping the service industry afloat in some cases.
