Videos: Ultimate Bermuda Experience
Winners of an online sweepstakes descended on the island to participate in the first annual Ultimate Bermuda Experience held yesterday [Jan.17].
Inspired by Phil Keogan, producer and host of CBS’s The Amazing Race, the Ultimate Bermuda Experience took the group on a tour of different spots on the island to experience Bermuda’s sights and culture.
The winners included Jennifer and Scott Saylor, Rita Singleton, Richard Elgin, Joy and Gary McDaniel, Andy Marr and his brother Kevin.
Phil Keogan before the start of the Ultimate Bermuda Experience:
The experience kicked off with a fundraising gala on January 15, 2012 to benefit the MS Society of Bermuda, the official charity of the Ultimate Bermuda Experience.
The MS Society of Bermuda works with its members to help pay for the staggering costs of medications that can range anywhere from $1,300 to $5,000 a month.
Mr. Keoghan, producer and host of the multi-award winning CBS series, The Amazing Race said: “I have been a longtime supporter of the U.S. National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and I am so happy to be coming to Bermuda to support the local chapter here.
“I am also thrilled to be visiting Bermuda to learn about and experience everything the island has to offer.”
Overview of the day:
Mr Keoghan came with his team of professional female cyclists, the NOW and Novartis for MS Women’s Cycling Team. The cycling team is made up of world-class professional female cyclists dedicated to raising awareness and providing a deeper understanding of what MS is and how people are affected by it.
The event began at Camden at 7:00am where the participants were welcomed by Premier Paula Cox and Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert as they arrived.
Winners went around the island on the back of mopeds, courtesy of Elbow Beach cycles, with local volunteer riders. Locations visited included Flatts, Tucker’s Point, Albouy’s Point, Waterlot, Nine Beaches, The Dockyard Company Ltd and Commissioner’s House where Mrs McDaniels was announced as the winner.
Dudley Thomas, event director wraps up the day’s event:
Sponsors of the Ultimate Bermuda Experience include NOW Energy Bar, The Reefs Hotel & Club, The Que Agency, G.E.T. Limited, Hope4Life and Bermuda Ministry of National Security.
This is just the sort of beneficial event that we need and I’m so glad that all the participants had a great time in Bermuda. Jet skiing looks like it was cold (brrrr) and it was wise to have volunteer motorbike drivers “chauffuer” our guests around. Congratulations!
Just awesome ! Thanks for coming. COME BACK !!
Too bad it won’t be shown on American tv. Apparently it’s only gonna be posted to the CBS website. Who paid for it, and what is the expected return on investment? Why was the Bermuda Ministry of National Security involved? How many additional visitors can we expect? To me, all this could be a waste of money. Like many other half-baked promotions the DOT has thrown up against the wall (to see if it will stick).
Shut up. Just shut up.
