Tucker’s Point Seeking New Manager

January 18, 2012

[Updated] Rosewood Tucker’s Point confirmed that General Manager Brian Young is no longer with the company effective today [Jan.18].

Erich Steinbock, Regional Vice President, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts said, “We can confirm that effective January 18, Brian Young is no longer with Rosewood Tucker’s Point.

“As we search for a new General Manager, operation of Rosewood Tucker’s Point will be run by Paul Telford, Director of Rooms.

“Paul is an experienced part of the Rosewood Tucker’s Point management team and will have the assistance of seasoned Rosewood leaders who will visit the resort in the coming days to offer support as business demands require.”

When questioned as to the nature of Mr Young’s departure — whether he was asked to leave or resigned — a hotel spokesperson said, “No further details are being released by the hotel.”

Mr Young was appointed as General Manager of Tucker’s Point Hotel & Spa in December 2009. He previously worked as the General Manager for The Sea Island Resorts in Georgia, and Vice President of Operations for Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, LLC, headquartered in Texas. He was promoted to that position in 2004 after five years as managing director of Caneel Bay, a Rosewood Resort in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The question that needs to be asked, though, is this… was he fired, or did he resign? I am leaning towards the former.

Not re-newing work permits for pot washer positions… Why can’t the government not re-new permits for General managers so we Bermudians can make some real money for a change.

There are so many Bermudian Division Directors at all of our hotels. I’m sure their qualified.

All these foreign General Managers come to Bermuda live Great lives get all this experience from Bermudians and add it to their resume’s. They should be here to train a Bermudian to replace them once their term is up.

How many Bermudian General Manager’s do we have in Bermuda? How many Hotels do we have in Bermuda? Who knows more about running a hotel in Bermuda? and who will more likely bring another Bermudian along with them to the top? Cause none of these foreign GM’s are doing it. IM JUST SAYING. How many Bermudian hotel workers have degrees from universities in hospitality at a senior level? How many Bermudians have sneior hotel experience in hotel operations in other but similar jurisdictions in the world? Or should it just be length of service that makes the manager?
It is there for Bermudians if they want it. It seems now that things are tight they want it, otherwise it does seem like a lot of work. And work weekends and holidays….those days are over!
Oh well, some jobs may be opening in the kitchen porterage area. Nothing like working ones way up.

  4. Cedar Beams (Original) says:

It is there for Bermudians yes but they might have to work a weekend, May 24th, Cop Metch. It will never happen. So stop complaining when they bring in a foreign manager – or step up to the plate.

  5. sticky says:

We have some really stupid people on these blogs, who would thing that a Bermudian with a senior hotel position would not want to work weekends or public holidays. Any moron in a hurry would surely know the hotel is a seven days a week operation.

    • R2012 says:

And the seven day a week job, is what most bermudians don’t want. They don’t want to give up their parties and don’t for cup match, Bermuda day and any other holiday even though when you’re in hospitality you get time and a half for working holidays.
