Container Ship Diverts: Sick Crewman

On Friday night [Feb.24] a UK-flagged container ship traveling from Germany to Mexico diverted to Bermuda to obtain medical care for a sick crew member.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Radio received a call from the USCG to report an inbound ship with a sick crew member who required medical attention.

“The 26,718 GRT, UK flag, container ship m/v OCEAN PROMISE [pictured] was 782NM SE of Bermuda on passage from Bremerhaven, Germany to Veracruz, Mexico and diverted to Bermuda for medical assistance.

“At 07:10pm on Friday 24th February the vessel rendezvoused with the P/V St David at the deep draft position [approximately 3.1 nautical miles east of St. David’s Lighthouse] where the transfer took place.

“Once ashore at Ordnance island the patient was transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”
