Two Bermuda Players Reprimanded In UAE

March 19, 2012

Bermuda’s Dion Stovell and Lionel Cann have both received official reprimands for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during their side’s 24-run loss against Nepal at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in Abu Dhabi yesterday [Mar.18].

The official ICC website said, “Stovell and Cann both pleaded guilty to the Level 1 offence and accepted the proposed sanction by ICC Match Referee David Jukes. The pair was found to have breached Article 2 Section 2.1.3 of the ICC Code, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an International Match”.

“Stovell and Cann were both given out LBW in the fourth over of the match and were excessive in delaying their departure from the crease. This was considered to be a show of dissent, a fact accepted by both the players themselves. As Stovell and Cann pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction, there was no need for a formal hearing. The charge was bought by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Mark Hawthorne.:

“One can understand Messrs. Cann and Stovell’s disappointment but they should make their way more promptly from the crease once they have been given out by the umpires and not linger so long in future. I hope this reprimand and warning will remind them both to always respect the umpires’ decision,” said ICC Match Referee David Jukes.

The Bermuda National Cricket team is taking part in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier presently underway in the United Arab Emirates. So far, they have played against Canada, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Denmark and Nepal, losing all five games.

Real classy Bermuda. Not only are you a bunch of highly paid losers, you’re poor sportsmen. Real class.

  4. Dismayed says:

Cann, again!!!!! He seems to have a reputation for arogant, unpleasant behaviour and it is because he has never been sufficiently punished. Kick him off the team.

Leave these guys out of the team…. Lionel played like crap and why wasn’t the other St. David’s guys played… So sure they would have done a whole lot better than some. Was the coach/captain/entourage relying on Lionel to get the runs – totally ridiculous… I trust these guys will be further punished by their respective clubs and the BCBC….
