Education Minister Details Principals Transfers
Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith has today [Mar.16] released details concerning the four school principals who will be transferred for the upcoming 2012/13 school year,
Minister Smith announced that:
- Mrs. Judith Alexander – will move from Purvis Primary School to Victor Scott Primary School;
- Mrs. Francine McMahon – will move from TN Tatem Middle School to Purvis Primary School;
- Mrs. Idonia Beckles– will move from East End Primary School to TN Tatem Middle School; and
- Ms. Valerie Williams– will move from the Victor Scott Primary School to East End Primary School.
The Minister reiterated that the transfers are “designed to meet system needs and to address:
1. Student Achievement– ensuring that we focus on improving outcomes and addressing student needs;
2. Resource Distribution– ensuring equity across schools – sharing the talent to raise standards in all schools;
3. Professional Growth – re-energising our leaders and teachers and ensuring that development opportunities are created to strengthen our staff and improve performance.”
The Minister noted that, “Each of these principals has provided a solid foundation at their particular school and they bring specific experience and expertise which will augment the school to which they are being transferred for the 2012/2013 year.”
Minister Smith concluded by thanking the four principals for their “commitment to doing what is best for the students of Bermuda”, and repeating the fact that “the moves are in line with the focus on supporting schools and building capacity to maximise the performance of all those who interact with our students.”
will the same happen at the Education Ministry Level.
they need to be re-energized. All those Ph.d’s and still no innovation. let’s see Dr. Matthews Dr. Simmons, Dr. Evans, Dr. Tucker. they need to be placed better.
I’m in favour of swapping the current Education Minister with Dr. Grant Gibbons.
ha! especially after Grant said the last time he was in a public school was Roger B Chaffee on the base!
And where Grant Gibbons went to school in Bermuda is of previsely what relevance???
1965. Mrs. Ruth Seaton James became the Registrar General. This made her the first black woman to head a government department.
1965. Howard Academy had government funding withdrawn and was closed. Government also withdrew funding for racially segregated schools.
The current minister of education surely is of retirement age… she needs to RETIRE !!!!!!!
Bermuda Education Network wishes all of these principals well with their transfers to new schools and new challenges. Ms Williams has been a key ally for BEN’s work to provide additional opportunities to students in the public system. During her tenure at Victor Scott Ms Williams has embraced the services provided by BEN and our member organisations to provide enrichment programs to students at her school. With Ms. William’s support, BEN raised funds to place students in financial difficulties in summer camps during July and August 2011. Ms Williams also enthusiastically collaborated with Bermuda National Gallery, Masterworks, Kaleidoscope and BEN during the first year of our Art & Me program. We look forward to working with Ms Williams on new initiatives in the East End and pledge our continued support with our existing programs to the new principal of Victor Scott, Mrs Judith Alexander, and also to finding ways to support the new principal at TN Tatem, Ms Ionia Beckles and the new principal at Purvis, Ms Francine McMahon.
Why has Bernews not followed up on the BIU press conference where he denied his own words. Also whyvis ther no article on the budget overuns plus the budget impact of the flip flopping of budget statement announced policies? St Baldricks is definately a worthy news item, showing personal sacrifice for the benefit of others, but where are the relevant financia
, political and Bermuda artucles.
