Estwanik Runner-Up In First Marathon

March 19, 2012

Bermuda runner Chris Estwanik [pictured] was runner-up in his first marathon yesterday [Mar.18] in Virginia.

American Mr. Estwanik competed in the 40th running of the Yuengling Shamrock full marathon at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

“This is my first-ever marathon,” Mr. Estwanik — who finished in 2:24:32 and behind winner Jynocel Basweti of Kenya — told the “Virginia Pilot” newspaper. “I tried to keep Jynocel in my sights but there was no catching him.

“I came here to run my first marathon because many people in Bermuda have run here and said this run has a great reputation. They were right.”

“We ran a long way alone,” said Mr. Basweti, who finished his first Shamrock in 2:22:57. “We might have had better times if we had been able to push each other.”

Last May Mr. Estwanik won his fourth consecutive Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby and he took top honours in the Bermuda International Race Weekend 10K and Half-Marathon in January.

This guy is amazing to watch when he runs! Reminds me of the domination Kevin Smith had back in the day. Congratulations Mr. Estwanik, keep on running.
