Ships Divert To Drop Off Crew

March 12, 2012

The Bahamian registered cruise ship Seabourn Sojourn — which was en route from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Funchal, Madeira — diverted to Bermuda yesterday [Mar.11].

“The ship advised that she was diverting to Bermuda with two crew members in need of urgent repatriation,” said the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre.

“Transfer of the crew members to the pilot boat St David took place off the east end of Bermuda at 8:45am. Further transfer to staff from the Meyer Agency took place at Ordnance Island, St George’s.”

In addition, on March 5th, the Greek registered bulk carrier SD Victory — which was en route from the U.S. to Gibraltar — started to divert to Bermuda in order to disembark the ship’s electrician who had suffered a suspected broken ankle following a fall from a ladder.

The transfer of the 46 year old Russian national to the pilot boat St David took place off the east end of Bermuda at 7:30am on Wednesday 7th March. He was then transported to a waiting ambulance at Ordnance Island, and then to KEMH for treatment.
