Swimmers Set New Short & Long Records
Following the Best of the Best Series second Event at the BASA Pool on March 17th, the Columbus Grand Prix, in Columbus Ohio on March 10th and the Florida South Sectionals, in Orlando Florida on March 14th, the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association has confirmed seven New Short Course Records and three New Long Course Records have been Set.
During the second BASA Short Course Best of the Best event, Emma Harvey broke the 9-10 year old Female 50m Butterfly clocking a time of 34.79, breaking the previous record of 35.41 which was set on February 25th, 2012 by Ashley Irby
Harvey then broke her own 9-10 year old Female 100m Butterfly record with a time of 1:16.59, her previous record of 1:18.89 was set on December 04th, 2011.
The team of Ashley Irby, Lizzie Thresh, Alyssa Paynter and Harvey set a New 9-10 year old Female 4x50m Freestyle Relay record clocking 2:16.40, the their own previous record of 2:21.28 which they set swimming in a different order on October 08th, 2011.
Ashley Yearwood’s record of 34.09 which was set on July 14th, 2007 stands no more, as Shannon Hassell set the New 11-12 year old Female 50m Backstroke Record clocking 33.40.
Hassell was at it again in the 11-12 year old Female 100m Backstroke where she was clocked at 1:10.98breaking the previous record of 1:13.75 which was set on July 18th, 2004 by Rebecca Sharpe.
Jesse Washington rewrote the records in the 11-12 Male 50m Freestyle when he touched the wall in a time of 26.81, he broke his own previous record of 26.98 which he set on February 25th at the first Best of the Best Meet.
The 13-14 year old Male 4x50m Freestyle team of Shannon Botelho, Ryan Robb, Ferdinand Arnold and Washington set a New record with a time of 1:55.37, they broke the previous record of 2:04.15 which was set on October 08th, 2011 by Botelho, Justin Ferreira, Robb and Philip Hagen.
During the Florida South Sectionals Long Course event Stephanie Myles set a New Open Female 1500m Freestyle record clocking a time of 18:18.88.
Lisa Blackburn set a New Long Course Record during the Columbus Grand Prix, on March 10th, when she touched the wall in the Open Female 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1:13.09, breaking her previous record of 1:13.21 which she set on December 03rd, 2011.
Blackburn then broke her own Record in the Open Female 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:39.38.
If only our cricket and football teams could produce such glowing results .

It seems “Bermuda records” are being set in more sports than you think.
