Local Sailors In World Record Regatta In Italy
The World Record Breaking Regatta at Lake Garda started on yesterday [Apr.5] with over 1,100 competitors from 26 countries racing their Optimists in 2 age gategories.
Bermuda sailors Campbell Patton (11) and Matilda Nicholls (10) have been training hard with the Nationals Squads from Poland and Switzerland with Coach Zizi Staniul.
Yesterday racing started and the young Bermuda sailors competed against 266 sailors in their age category, the Cadettin Fleet.
Their races were split into 2 flights with Patton lying in 63rd overall, scoring 53rd and 19th in his flights. Nicholls finished 20th and 9th in her flights and lies in 26th overall again out of 130 boats. The two sailors representing the RBYC Sailing Academy and Sandys Boat Club are picking up significant experience at this leading International Regatta.
At a time when there are major international regattas for the Optimist Class taking place in Argentina, Holland and Spain, it is all the more remarkable that over 1000 Optimists are competing in Lake Garda. Racing continued on Lake Garda today.
