BEST “Information Walk” Around Grand Atlantic
The Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce [BEST], in cooperation with Warwick residents, is planning an “Information Walk” around the Grand Atlantic housing site on South Road in Warwick, Sunday 27th May between 6pm and 8pm.
A statement from BEST said, “The 40-minute walk will begin from the parking areas on the western end of the Southlands property. We will enter the beach at the western end of Southlands Beach and walk east along the beach (on the public property below the high water mark), noting points of interest along the Grand Atlantic stretch.
“Walkers will exit the beach at Astwood Walk — along a strip of land donated to the Bermuda public by Sir James Astwood’s family. We will then walk west along the roadside back to the parking lot at Southlands.
“The purpose of this walk is to highlight the issues and unaddressed concerns that this development presents for neighbours, the Bermuda public and potential residents. Our goal is for further construction on the site to be suspended until:
- a) the plans for the entire development are made readily available to the public,
- b) a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is completed for the development (as per Environment Charter, 2001),
- c) there is a clear indication this housing is meeting a need.
“A map of the walk and points of interest will be posted to the BEST website closer to the time [www.best.org.bm]. Walkers should be prepared for rocky terrain and for getting your feet wet — wear sensible shoes. No baby strollers, wheelchairs or pets. No refreshments enroute; bring your own water.”

But won’t this interefere with the residents of the new apartments…?
oh, wait a minute, there aren’t any are there. I nearly forgot.
Minister Weeks will be declaring this as a massive show of renewed interest in the Grand Atlantic condo’s.
PLP hyping the mundane again!
I hope they talk about how a Hurricane 4/5 comes, the cliff will be so eroded that it will be uninhabitable to live in these places.
the walls looked alot worse before they put the concrete there….also, the property was never used by anyone except bike theifs.
YAWN. Stuart Hayward seriously needs a life.
One day you will wish there were more people fighting for the voiceless in bermuda.
Says somebody who would be happy to see the island covered & smothered with concrete with a McDonalds every half mile & a Walmart center, east & west.
Not that I am supporter of this development, because I’m not. But where does Stuart Hayward, you, or anyone else get the authority to tell someone what they can or cannot do with property they own and pay for. Isn’t that what planning department regulations and processes are for?
No, I do not want the island covered over in concrete but some of you people make me laugh. Can I go to Berkeley Road and tell/demonstrate as to how I think Mr. Hayward should build/paint a wall on his property? Just a question(s)?
Yes that is what the planning regs and processes are for and they were circumvented
You idiot they gave an SDO. It was never meant to have anything built on it as it was protected land.
The real victims will be the people who are hoodwinked into buying these death traps – their hard earned money will be completely wasted – as the buildings will be uninhabitable after the first big blow.
They should be used as tourist efficiency units plain and simple. No long term occupants so they can be moved out before the buildings fall into the sea.
Will Lopes be serving ice tea to the masses?
you could talk about Lopes all you whant….money is in the bank in his account…..lol. and he is laughting at all of us….
Just goes to show that he is part of the greedy club that has been allowed to destroy Bermuda. Add him to the list with Dennis and Zane.
