HIP & FutureCare Online Payments Now Available

June 26, 2012

Policyholders of HIP and FutureCare are now able to pay their premiums online through Butterfield Online Banking, Health Minister Zane DeSilva said on Monday [June 25]. This announcement brings the available premium payment methods for HIP and FutureCare to six.

Minister DeSilva said, “Today I am pleased to announce, on behalf of the Health Insurance Department, that policyholders will now be able to pay their HIP and FutureCare premiums online through Butterfield Online Banking.

“Allowing policy holders to make their payments in this way is yet another example of how this Government is surely and steadily improving service for Bermudians.

“Now, at just the click of a mouse, premiums can be paid without the policy holder having to leave the comfort of their home or place of work.

“This is particularly helpful to those who have internet access and find it difficult or inconvenient to pay their premiums in person.

“However, it should be noted that there were already two existing online banking options in place – paying via HSBC online and also via EasyPay online,” Minister DeSilva continued.

“The Health Insurance Department advises care must be taken in selecting the correct vendor name depending on the insurance plan. Incorrect payments will result in premiums not being posted to the correct account.

“For all HIP premium payments, select the Health Insurance Fund. For all FutureCare premium payments, select the FutureCare Fund.I would like to remind policyholders to include their policy number in the “notes for payee” field.

“HIP and FutureCare premiums are due on the first day of each month. Failure to pay premiums in a timely manner may result in loss of coverage.

“This announcement brings the available premium payment methods for HIP and FutureCare to six, including:

  • 1. In-person at the Health Insurance Department office by cash, cheque, credit or debit card;
  • 2. Via drop-box at our offices for cheques;
  • 3. Via mail for cheques;
  • 4. Online banking via HSBC;
  • 5. Online banking via EasyPay;
  • 6. And now online banking via Butterfield Online.

“The Health Insurance Department will be sending out a letter to all policyholders on the new payment method with the July bills, as a reference.

“I would like to conclude by saying that I am proud to support Future Care – a plan which is undoubtedly having a positive impact on the lives of thousands of Bermudians who are benefiting from prescription drug coverage and greater access to doctors – all while paying an affordable premium”, concluded the Health Minister.
