Scotiabank Optimist Regatta Concludes

The 20th Scotiabank Optimist regatta in St Thomas, USVI regatta finished on Sunday [June 24] after three fantastic days of racing with three races sailed in 12-15 knot winds. A record 96 sailors competed in the Advanced Red, Blue and White Fleets.

The Advanced Fleets completed 11 races total in three days of competition. Sailors hailed from 16 nations. Following racing on Saturday the fleet was divided in two divisions. The top half comprised the Gold fleet and the bottom half the Silver fleet.

Bermuda sailors, Ceci Wollmann, Antonio Bailey, Makai Joell, Benn Smith and Chase Cooper made the cutoff for the Gold fleet while Bermuda was represented in Silver by Rory Caslin, Mikey Wollmann, Peter and Samantha Dill, Joe Arrowsmith, Izzy Dutranoit and Charis Todd.

Makai Joell competing at this year’s regatta:

Bermuda sailor Peter Dill shined in Silver, winning 2 of the 3 races in the Silver fleet on the final day. Bermuda’s top sailor was Ceci Wollmann who sailed a consistent regatta with 5 races in the top 10.

Top three overall were Will Logue, Romain Screve and Nic Muller, all USA Worlds team members. Top girl was Justina Pacheco from the Dominican who was here for Junior Gold Cup and our Bermuda Nationals.
