“Agonizingly Close Results” For Track Athletes
Some of Bermuda’s Olympic track and field hopefuls competed overseas this past weekend, recording what BTFA President Donna Watson called “agonizingly close results.”
Ms Watson said, “We have had some agonizingly close results this weekend. Aaron Evans competing in the NCAA Championships made it to the finals in the 800m placing 1st in his heat. He then ran in the finals and placed 7th in a time of 1.46.66 with the standard for London 1.46.30.
“We then had Arantxa King who competed in the long jump and unfortunately did not make the finals but jumped a windaided PB of 13.16m in the Triple Jump.
“Tre Houston competing in a meet in Bulgaria placed 7th in the 100m in a time of 10.59 and placed 2nd in the 200m in a PB of 20.87 with the qualifying standard being 20.65.
“Lamont Marshall continues his quest toward the Olympics with a PB in the 1500m of 3.46.51 with the qualifying standard being 3.38.0. Shaquille Dill was at the same meet and placed 2nd in a time of 1.51.08 having already qualified in the 800 and 400 for the World Junior Championships.
“Tyrone Smith continues his preparation competing in the Adidas Grand Prix meet placing 4th with a jump of 7.73m. Dage Minors competing in the New England Championships placed 4th in the 800m in a time of 1.57.
“We are looking forward to these athletes performing at home and possibly reaching the standard at home in front of their Bermuda crowd”, concluded Ms Watson.
Everybody keep up the good work!! You have all worked hard and are so close…you can do it!!!
