Woman Pleads Guilty: Violently Resisting Arrest
Tara Burrows of Benny’s Bay Road Southampton pleaded guilty in Magistrates Court this morning [June 14] to using threatening words and violently resisting arrest after police had been called to her residence on 28th May 2012.
The facts read out to Senior Magistrate Archie Warner were that around 6:40pm on Monday 28th May, Ms Burrows had an altercation with her sister with whom she shared a residence.
The Court heard that during this altercation, Ms Burrows said to her sister: “I’ll kill you.” The altercation became more furious and spread into the street with the two sisters struggling with one another. Neighbours intervened physically by separating the sisters and by calling the police.
After the police had arrived and were dealing with the matter, Ms Burrows again told her sister: “I’ll kill you.” While trying to arrest and control her, Ms Burrows attempted to bite a police officer and resisted being handcuffed.
Speaking to the Senior Magistrate, Ms Burrows said that her sister had struck her first and that she had been hurt more than her sister. She also said: “I want to apologize for my actions.”
Stemming from this incident, there was a third charge against Ms Burrows. This charge was for unlawfully assaulting her sister; but Ms Burrows had pleaded not guilty to this charge.
The Crown Prosecutor asked for a two week adjournment so that the Crown could review its position on this third charge. The Senior Magistrate agreed and set a Mention date of 28th June for dealing with this.
Ms Burrows was granted $1,000 bail and must re-appear on 28th June.
