Venetta Symonds, CEO of Bermuda Hospitals Board comments: “It is extremely gratifying to see the KEMH Redevelopment Project and Bermuda being recognized on the international stage. It is recognition for everyone who has been involved, from BHB staff, Paget Health Services, our advisers, Government departments and local businesses, groups and individuals. From the very start we were committed to running this project to the very highest international PPP standards, and this award positions the project, the hospital and Bermuda in an extremely positive light.”
Robert Wotherspoon, Director of Sir Robert McAlpine Capital Ventures Limited, which formed the Paget Health Services consortium, comments: “We are very proud of winning this prestigious award against such strong international competition. The Project has been run to highest standards all the way from the earliest stages of the procurement process, and the hard work since groundbreaking has kept the new acute care facility on schedule to open in 2014.
“The Best Accommodations Award recognizes that this is a very well run project that will deliver to Bermuda a much-needed new hospital facility to meet the healthcare needs of the island for many decades to come.”
James Campbell, Project Director at BHB, adds: “This is a great achievement for the project and the many people and stakeholders involved who ensured it ran on time and to the highest competitive standards. The judges commended us on managing an international competition involving contractors and funders from around the world within the tight timescales and recognized the efforts that have gone in to ensure the design is highly energy efficient and considers the environment.

“They noted how the design for our new facility had achieved a 26% reduction in energy against recognized baselines, and a 40% reduction in water use. We hope the community is proud that their new hospital facility has won this Award.”
The Awards Ceremony is organized by the Partnerships Bulletin, a monthly, subscription-based magazine and website focusing on partnership working between the public and private sector. The aim of the Awards is to promote best practice and recognise innovation and excellence in public infrastructure projects using private finance. The Awards are judged by the most respected names in the industry. The Best Accomodation Project is the Project Category for all health, education, housing, central government, blue light and courts projects, rather than individual organizations. For the first time this year, all categories were open projects, teams and individuals from across the world.
The KEMH Redevelopment Project received its award at the Awards Ceremony, which was held in London Hilton, Park Lane, and brought together the key decision-makers from the public and private sectors.

So that’s what the BHB “management team” was doing in London; picking up a pretty award.
Quite amazing since the hospital hasn’t even been built yet. I guess they had the prettiest “artist rendition”.
What a terrible shame there are so many like FAMILY MAN that are unable to be proud of the achievements that Bermuda makes so often. Why not be proud when Bermuda is able to not only match it with the world but is outstanding in doing so.
I am a proud Australian but will will always remember that I was a proud Bermudian FIRST. Good onya BDA.
