It should be free of charge…

    • Foolishness says:

      Why

      • duh says:

because the internet is technically a free service, and they want money for it.

        • Midnite says:

The resources used to connect you to the internet, however, are not free.

          • Swing Voter says:

greedy bastids…..who the hell takes their laptop to cupmatch anyway

          • TopShot says:

it should be free someone always trying to make a quick buck….. hope it cost them more to set up than profit ….Dreamers plus who cares about wifi at cupmatch get Real!

        • Triangle Drifter says:

And all those phone wires, undersea cables & the whole system that the signals travel through are free?????

          Think again.

          • Internet = Easy says:

Don’t talk to me about undersea cables…I know how the system works and its easy as a piece of pie! Info goes through the cable and BAM, Internet….nothing more, nothing less……its so easy that even a CHILD could do it, and trust me, I’d know, because I have children!

Internet = Easy (Get a Grip)

            • Telecomm Pro says:

If it so easy, why don’t you run a line across the Atlantic, set up a data center in you residence, install the infrastructure island wide and give us all free Internet. Oh, and try doing that on your own, because I am quite sure you won’t find anybody to help you for free.

Oh, and by the way, I have overly simplified the process to just 3 mentioned points, and didn’t mention the several hundred other hurdles that would be there, from financial to legal to physical.

It is quite obvious that you haven’t even the most basic of knowledge about what it takes, I would pay good money to see you try, just not to you.

              • Internet = Easy says:

Okay let me break it down for you:

                1. Running a line across the Atlantic = Ridiculously Easy…all you need is a spindle, a boat and a few hundred miles of cable…four hours TOPS

                2. Setting up a data center in my house = Are you serious? My tenants just moved back to Philadelphia so I have TWO SPARE ROOMS in which to place all the servers/various hardware. I could set it up faster than you can say “Bob’s Your Uncle” AND still be at my friend Wrentham’s house for cocktails by 7pm.

                3. Installing the Infrastructure Islandwide = Laughably Easy…plenty of good people looking for volunteer opportunities here who could do it in literally less than eight hours.

                Total Net Cost = $0.00

“There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why… I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?”
                - Robert Kennedy

        • Foolishness says:

Well now! The root of your ignorance.

The internet is not a free service. It is paid for by the numerous advertisers and Web sites you visit. And the fees you pay to access it. Are you suggesting your internet at home should be free?

Sending BBMs, Facebook, Twitter, uploading pics, via wifi is a whole lot cheaper than your mobile data!!!

Visitors will be able to use WIFI instead of paying the over the top roaming data charges

          Hello!!!!!!

  2. Terry says:

Go to the damn game or listen to it on the radio.

Oh crap…..they don’t have radios anymore.

  3. Real Keep it Real says:

Hey @Keeping it real. Why did you steal my screen name from RoyalGazette? You have no class for stealing my screen name!! Im the only one that can keep it real..

    • The ACTUAL Real Keepin' It Real...4 Real! says:

      • Keepin It The Realist says:

Why is erry1 jackin my name? none of you keep it realer than me. St georges All d way. jah mon. bless up

        -Realest

    • Ian Moone says:

@Real Keep it Real,Keepin’ it Real…4Real!, The ACTUAL Real Keepin’ It Real…4 Real, and Really Real Keepin’ it Real: To all those whose screen name is “keeping it real” or whatever. If you was really keeping it real would you put your real name? Using a fake name is not keeping it real.

Summary: real name = keeping it real
fake name = not keeping it real

whose phony, whose fake, them the type of people I hate…

      • Keepin' It Fake, Make NO Mistake! says:

I agree with Ian Moone! If you gonna use a fake name, at LEAST have the decency to admit that you JUST AIN’T REAL, SON

Take me, for instance…I’m mug, and most people (including myself) are aware of this. As such, I choose to use a fake name because it exemplifies my mugness and calls attention to the undeniable fact that I’m just not keepin’ it real, and probably never will be. Though it was difficult, I’ve made peace with this reality and learned to live with it. All of you people who CLAIM to be “keepin’ it real” need to take serious pause for self-reflection and ask yourself some difficult questions, chiefly: “Am I TRULY the appropriate spokesperson for ‘reality’?”

        Blessed Day To All

  4. Politely Pompous says:

The funny part is that it’s $5 for 24 hours or-wait for it-$10 for 48 hours! How about making it $8 for 24 hours or something like that, i.e. give a discount for using it for two days instead of making it exactly double.

    • Arithmatic says:

Welll….you see the recession has been and gone, government is r*ping this island, and why would these guys know anything about good business? double the pleasure, double the fun, that’s the feelin that you get when the businesses (and/or gov.) are inside your…..pockets…

  5. TECH says:

DIGICEL AND CELLONE WOULD NEED TO PUT UP REPEATERS SO COULD ACTUALLY MAKE TO PHONE CALL…

  6. roger says:

Both Clubs say they need $S. Will SCC get a % of the $5 or $10 paid by each WIFI user?

  7. iBleedRED says:

    Wifi?!
How bout some Air Conditioner lol.
Nice Gesture–not sure who will really NEED it though.

    • Building a better Bermuda says:

It is good for any visitors, they would rather pay $5 or $10, than be reamed by the roaming data charges that the cell companies charge. Also, I am sure any local with a iTouch or even an iPad will probably use it to post to their Facebook photos.

Wonder if that $5/$10 would carry over to any of their other WiFi hotspots?

  8. ixl says:

What is unfortunate here are all the nay-sayers. Every year our clubs look for ways to enhance our Cup Match experience. If this is a service you feel is stupid, un-necessary or a rip off the answer is real simple… DO NOT USE IT!!! In past years there have been attendees who had a work crisis or an office off island had an immediate need and they had to leave the game to go home to log onto the internet to connect to the office and send the file than have to make their way back to the game and family. I happens trust me I know so while this may not be the norm but it does happen and the WiFi zone can off set this. We as a people need to stop thinking if it is something we do need than it is stupid it is so sad to read such small minded thinking day after day.

  9. ixl says:

To those people complaining about cost: did anyone consider the cost of the equipment which had to be obtained and installed, the cost of the fiber that someone had to lay and install at the club, the time and effort involved to test such a service before releasing it to the general public on that great day and finally the cost that the provider is going to have to pay some unionized workers to work on a holiday to ensure that the services stay up and working both days. Oh yeah, I forgot now lets reverse that process as they dismantle everything after we have enjoyed the service (that is if we chose to use it) All for the low cost of $5 for the day it cost me more at Newark Airport ($7.95 a day) and I was only there for 4 hours. I spent it and did not even think twice. STOP being so MEAN and DOGMATIC this is not what Bermuda is all about. This is a company’s owner and mostly Bermudian staff (I think) seems to want to offer to Bermuda a service gives us something more at Cup Match. I know that when I am at the football stadium I log onto to the wifi service there and do what ever is it my heart desired including ordering swimwear for Bermuda LOL. It cost to live. I will use it to send my family at home clips of the game and pay any streaming of the game that might be offered. I can wait for Cup Match… Thank you Somerset Cricket Club, the entire group sponsors, vendors and diehard supports who are working to make this day enjoyable for Bermuda which means ME!!!!!
    GO Somerset…
