St George’s & Somerset 2012 Cup Match Teams
Somerset Cricket Club and St. George’s Cricket Club announced their teams for the upcoming Annual Cup Match Classic this evening [July 28].
St George’s — the defending champions — have recalled Glenn Blakeney and picked colts Kyle Hodsoll and Treadwell Gibbons, while Somerset have selected colts Tre Manders and Greg Maybury, while recalling Chris Douglas and Derek Brangman.
Somerset Cricket Club President Alfred Maybury said he is “ecstatic with the team, and I know that this is a team which is going to deliver for both Somerset Cricket Club and the Somerset community.”
St George’s Cricket Club Presidents Neil Paynter said they intend to “go to Somerset, put on a great show, win the Cup and bring it back to St George’s. The video below shows the Presidents of both clubs discussing their teams.

However, I agree, the commentators (some) are dreadful. Surely they can seek assistance from a good school teacher as soon as they sign up for the job.
Rockfish#2, strangely enough, a few of these commentators are current or past school teachers! They are the biggest culprits!
somerset is bias meerrccyy, i agree jekon shouldnt be captain and even playin cup match im glad derrick back in his good , to bad for treddy next year his going have to make space for orande , sad but the truth orande needs alot of work

Somerset have a very good team on paper a few young ones but lots of years and i like the look of them if not for now for years to come. St geo has a very positive team of players they may give you a chance but if you dont take it they will murder you with lots of runs, AS for the comentators I enjoyes the fresh Tv last year the most.

Both clubs need to stop showing favouritism on whose who! Players need to be picked for their performances from the time the cricket season begins not just for the trial performances! St George’s has a colt who comes home from UK and makes the Cup Match team as as reserve, last year and again this year mmm!(whose who??). Why can’t another young cricketer be given the opportunity to be a reserve? Oh, I know why, you have to in the clique:( (sad but true!). May the best team win and we know that will be ST GEORGE’S BOYS FOREVER!!!

LOL!! Cup Match should and will always be extremely competitive. That’s part of the fun that leads up to the match and during the match. I do agree with sportsmanship and camaraderie though.

LOL people make me laugh. If you going to criticize, be a man or a woman and put a name. I am not scared or hiding behind any name. My name up here and who every reads knows who I am. Everybody has opinions. Do I have questions bout the squad sometimes? Of course! But you will see me in my colors supporting anyway, cuz you never know what could happen or who could surprise you. I’m confident with the team I see. I’m not doubting other players may deserve to be playing too. But it’s just decisions that not just one person makes. It’s a whole board of selectors and a captain. Nobody goes into the game just picking favorites when you want to win. Both teams at the end of the day want to win. So why would they put a team out there just cuz his a family member or a friend. Be real. When you are having just having a pick up game you pick ppl who you think givinng you best chance to win. Not everybody can play. Not worried bout friends lol. If you want to jump ship then somerset, or st geo, then check you later fake fans.
Yes Edness is the first cousin of Manders. but that really doesn’t matter cuz being the third most run-getter on the island this season I think borders the line of somebody getting picked based on performances right? I dnt know much of Greg maybury but he obviously has something cuz there’s other ppl on the selectors board other than the maybury! And from what I have heard from supporters on both teams he is good, so I hope the youngster can show me something. Was this coming out when the Smiths, Foggos or Bascomes were playing? And if experience and best wicketkeeping on the island isn’t bringing something to cup match then might have to call up Mark Boucher and tell him he should have never played for one of the best teams in the world.
Just one more thing, i am pretty sure that nobody on somerset other that janeiro is over 30, so if we calling 29 and 30 old guys in this game then I think, at 26, I should retire from football in a year or so cuz I guess I won’t be able to when I hit 30.
