Photos/Video: Boats Stored Away For Hurricane

September 6, 2012

As part of the preparation for Hurricane Leslie, boats are being hauled out of the water and stored on land across the island.

At West End Yachts in Dockyard, the process of hauling boats out of the water and storing them on land was well underway in an assembly line type process this afternoon [Sept 6].

A spokesperson at West End Yachts said that by 5pm today dozens of boats, of all sizes and values, had been hauled out as part of the pre-hurricane precautions.

So many boats have been hauled up that roadways inside the Dockyard area have been closed off and have become temporary boat storage space. Near the highly visible concrete silo, in a normally empty space, there are about twenty motor cruisers.

West End Yachts had to buy and truck in several hundred concrete blocks to create the strong bearers that are needed for the boats, some weighing up to the fifteen ton capacity of West End Yachts moving cradle. You can view all our Hurricane Leslie coverage here.
