Tropical Storm Leslie: Power Outage Updates
[Updating] Just over 800 customers in total across the island have lost power due to Tropical Storm Leslie, however BELCO crews are out working and many customers have been restored leaving only 190 without power.
A BELCO spokesperson said: “Some storm-related outages are occurring and crews are out making repairs, so the locations and numbers are changing quickly.
At this point, there have been a total 5 larger outages since the storm started yesterday — in Pembroke, Devonshire, Paget, St. David’s, as well as scattered small outages. In total, approximately 650 customers have been affected by power outages due to Tropical Storm Leslie, so far.
Larger is defined as over 25 customers affected, while smaller means under 25 customers affected.
The 9am update from the NHC said Leslie is slightly weaker, down to maximum sustained winds of 60mph and is now 150 miles south-east of Bermuda, and moving towards the north at 9mph. View our live blog and video feeds from all over the island here.
Update 11.50am: BELCO said: “The largest outage was at approximately 10:15 am, lasting approx. 35 minutes – it affected 470 customers, mostly in Devonshire, and was on a circuit out of our Hermitage Substation. So, that accounts for a big portion of the outages thus far.”
Update 11.20pm: BELCO said: “Currently: Naval Annex Substation in St. Davids, Circuit #534 has approximately 18 customers off. Approximately 11 scattered, single calls. Repairs are being carried out as conditions allow crews to do it safely, otherwise they are being addressed as weather subsides.”
Update 2.14pm: BELCO said there are currently approximately 190 customers without power, and an additional 660 lost power at one point but they have already had it restored. Crews are working to restore power, when weather conditions permit them to do so safely.

- 18 off Spring Benny area
- 17 off Lighthouse Road / Mariposa Drive area
- 7 off Middle Rd Warwick
- Plus approximately 15 single calls
Update 3.55pm: BELCO said: Crews are working, and some of these are due to come back on soon, but currently approximately 650 customers without power:
- 18 Spring Benny (been waiting for winds to die down)
- 17 Lighthouse Road / Mariposa Drive area
- 7 Middle Rd Warwick
- 452 along North Shore between Inghams Drive and Berkeley Road
- 12 around Rosemont / Between the Walls
- 23 Newman Lane / Seagull Lane
- Approximately 20 other scattered, small outages
Update 5.25pm: 452 customers off along North Shore between Inghams Drive and Berkeley Road had their power restored at approximately 4pm.
Update 5.59pm: BELCO said that at this time 76 customers remain without power. Leslie knocked out over 800 customers across the island, however BELCO crews worked through the storm restoring power.
Update 7.27pm: BELCO said there are currently 239 customers without electricity, and crews are working to make repairs. 213 customers off around Lovers Lane/Grape Bay Drive/Tankfield Lane area who should be repaired shortly, still 17 customers off in Lighthouse Rd/Mariposa Drive, and crews are working on the repairs, and 9 scattered, smaller calls
Update 8.50pm: BELCO said: “Crews continue to work to restore power to all customers tonight. Expectation is that repairs can be completed tonight with the exception of two commercial customers with underground cable faults. These customers are aware that repairs will continue tomorrow, as location and excavation will be required before repairs can be made.”
Update Sept 10, 7.45am: BELCO said: “Power to all residential customers was restored by approximately 2:30am. Work has started today to restore power to the previously mentioned commercial customers.”
