Saltus Headmaster To Step Down In 2013

September 11, 2012

Saltus Grammar School headmaster Ted Staunton will be stepping down in late June 2013, the school announced today.

An email to parents said: “I am writing to let you know of Ted Staunton’s decision to step down as Head of School in late June 2013 after what will be four years of outstanding service to Saltus Grammar School. Ted will be returning to Canada, where he intends to fulfill the many retirement plans that he placed on hold when joining us here at Saltus in 2009.

“We have been fortunate as a school community to have enjoyed Ted’s strong and able leadership as he guided our school through a significant management transition and forward through challenging times.

“He will leave Saltus in a position of strength with a professional and capable management team, a talented and dedicated faculty and staff, a school‐wide commitment to academic excellence, a healthy enrolment and a comprehensive four year Strategic Plan. Ted continues to have a full slate of objectives for this academic year which he will be sharing with you in the coming weeks.

“The Board of Directors is now very much focused on the search for Ted’s successor, and to ensuring a smooth and seamless transition in leadership. In anticipation of Ted’s departure, the Board of Directors has struck a search committee to begin this important work.

“We are committed to conducting an open and rigorous search to ensure that we are able to select from the very best slate of candidates possible.

“To assist us in our work, we have retained an executive search consultant, Colleen Keenan, a partner at Odgers Berndtson. Odgers Berndtson is an international search firm with a very well‐regarded academic practice. Colleen conducted the search that led to Ted’s appointment and knows Saltus well.

“As our work gets underway, we will provide the school community with periodic updates on our progress. We will be advertising the search widely and Colleen will also be consulting with members of our school community on the issues and challenges that will face our new Head and what we ought to be seeking in this person, so that the committee has the benefit of this input as we move forward.

“We anticipate that the search will run several months, and that we will be in a position to make an
announcement about our new head this winter.”
