Tropical Storm Leslie Upgraded To A Hurricane
Tropical Storm Leslie has just been upgraded to a hurricane, making it the sixth hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. Leslie’s maximum sustained winds are 75mph [120km/h], making it a Category One hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
In their latest update today [Sept 5] the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Leslie was 470 miles south south-east of Bermuda, and moving towards the north north-west at 2mph.
The Bermuda Weather Service has stated that storm force winds will likely arrive Saturday evening and hurricane force winds around dawn Sunday.
The Department of Parks has closed the South Shore beaches owing to the high surf and dangerous currents due to the approaching storm, and the Hamilton Cargo Docks will be closed for deliveries on Friday [Sept 7] in order to prepare for the impending storm.
The Department of Airport Operations is advising residents who may have cars parked in any areas of the LF Wade International Airport to remove them before the storm hits as this area is prone to flooding, and a full press statement is expected to be released following the Emergency Measures Organisation meeting being held this afternoon.

Yes they may have closed the beaches but my mom went down to John Smith’s Bay and there were KIDS (I am assuming teenagers) in the water!!! I am sorry but when there is a hurricane around it should be mandatory to have someone (law enforcement) on the beach to prevent this sort of thing from happening. What would the parents do if something had happened? Another question to ponder…where were the parents?!
These waters are extremely dangerous! NO ONE GO IN THE WATER!!!!
