Cooper Sits In Top 10 At North Americans
Day 3 of the IODA North American Championships saw a fair bit of movement on the leader board as the 149 sailors completed 3 more races in shifty conditions in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. Bermuda’s sole representative, Chase Cooper was able to rise 3 spots to the 10th position despite scoring his worst race to date, a 39th in Race 8.
His consistency in the other 2 races (9th and 4th) helped keep him on track towards a strong Bermuda showing. His goal entering the final day of racing on Saturday is to protect his top 10 spot over what is likely to be only 2 races as officials aim to complete the regatta with plenty of time to hold the closing ceremonies. He will have his work cut out for him as only 15 points separate 6th through 15th place.
The Netherland Antilles’ Odile Van Aanholt regained the top spot in the regatta with a slim one point margin over Singapore’s Samuel Jiun Jie Neo. Canada’s Justin Vittecoq is in 3rd place. Both Vittecoq and Van Aanholt are two time participants of the RenRe Jr Gold Cup.
Well done Chase! You are a marvelous ambassador for Bermuda. We wish you Tight Sails !
