BHB: Dr Donald Thomas Formally Resigns
The Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] confirmed this morning [Oct 1] that Dr Donald Thomas III has resigned from the position of Chief of Staff and has returned to the United States. No details were released, with the BHB saying: “The terms of Dr Thomas’ departure are, by agreement, confidential.”
Dr Thomas was employed as Chief of Staff from 8 June 2008 to 1 October 2012. He had been placed on “administrative leave” during this past summer, with the BHB declining to comment on the reasons why at that time.
Chairman Wendall Brown said: “Dr Victor Scott will remain as Interim Chief of Staff to continue the smooth transition. All of us at BHB, from the Board level through to Clinical Leaders, Management and staff, remain committed to our planned organization-wide Clinical and Corporate Governance Review. This review will identify our strengths and any organizational issues that need to be improved.”

Dr. Thomas was on paid administrative leave @ $800,000 a year=$66,666.00 a month for how many months??? I think it was more than time for him to resign. I also think it is vitally important that whatever investigation was taking place that caused him to be on “administrative leave” be completed and brought to public attention. The public’s health was in his hands.
In addition, this statement “The terms of Dr Thomas’ departure are, by agreement, confidential” gives rise to some serious concerns. IF Dr. Thomas got a severance package of any sort, that is also coming out of public funds and in no way should such an agreement have been entered into. In addition, if Dr. Thomas was guilty of anything that was not on the up-and-up, and was allowed to resign in order to keep it quiet, it becomes even more a matter for the public to be aware of.
Hey I’ll apply for that position for 1/4 of the salary.
Remember Prescod ?and his healthy pay off…
I’m sorry to see Dr. Thomas go and certainly wish him well in his future endeavors
Furthermore I would say that the details released in the media to me did not warrant a need to be placed on administrative leave.
They didn’t release the major reasons though for the administrative leave to the public. As per above, the terms of his departure are confidential… makes one wonder, what he was doing for the salary he made and why he was let go.
As tax payer dollars funded his salary he should have to open up the contract and the terms of his departure, but until PATI gets passed that may never happen.
Too bad , he should never have been put in that position…so how come he resigned ? and what do we public have to pay him ?
Bermudians are so fed up with the present so caled government…God can you hear us ?
We all know that all blacks, in particular black men, who have reached a certain level, have to be corrupt.
Race card! That was quick even by your normal idiotic standards. You really are a worthless individual.
What a disgusting and wholly racist thing to say. You should be ashamed of yourself, and I’m surprised Bernews would allow such a comment.
You should be hauled before the Human Rights Commsission.
Speechless.
There you are laverne… we’ve missed you! Were you overseas attending a racist relations conference?
Maybe she went to Marthas Vineyard to see her cousin & get some cookies & tea.
Wow LOL
No, she was canvassing with Rolf and Burch. What a shame their party allows such foolishness.
There you go again LaVerne. Keeping up the hate speech while the election looms.
LaVerne – That is a racist comment. Just because you are black (or are you) doesn’t give you any right or permission to call out another black man or any man or woman of any race. By the way, who do you work for?
shame on you LaVerne- what a disgusting and horrible slur against your fellow man……..
Lavern, enough is enough of your %^&*
Dear “Too bad” I feel that whatever this Dr. Thomas did to be sent packing, was for something shady! He was release for less than honorable reasons. Therefore I applauded the BHB to getting this out of there system. I don’t feel sorry for him but for the next place he goes to! Hopefully they “Who ever takes him” follow up on his track record.
PATHETIC!!!

Friend of the Doc’s!
Hopefully Dr. Scott will turn things around; by all accounts KEMH is already a much happier place to work with the fear and intimidation now gone. I bet the next one out the door will be … the guy who gave the pensions to Emerald Financial (I wonder on whose orders).
Must be nice to work a little over 3 days a week in Bermuda, return to USA on Friday afternoon and back to Bermuda on Monday afternoon and flying first class…where shall I send my resume…
