Take comfort in knowing that Derek is safe in the arms of Jesus and we shall see him again on the great day when Jesus himself shall appear and those that are asleep for now shall come with him and those of us that shall be alive and remain that are called by Jesus Christ name shall be caught up to meet Jesus and Derek in the air, where we will never part no more.

  19. Alan Gordon says:

I am so sad to hear that we did not get more time with such a warm man before God called him home.

I cannot presume to know God’s mind, but when his remains (from which his soul is now free) came to rest on Bethell’s Island, that was all the sign I needed to know, because “Bethell” means “House of God”.

Look it up. He is home now, and if we are good, we shall see him in due time, in but a wink of an eye.

    • Alan Gordon says:

Beg pardon. I have since become aware that the faith of the departed is such that he is /not yet/ home now — but we all fully expect, upon a more literal reading of scripture, that the departed WILL be home, when Jesus gives us New Earth. Begging pardon.

  20. g-GURL says:

God bless Mrs. Spencer and family !

  21. Maxwell Riley says:

Gone but not forgotten. I can remember he never pass me without speaking and would call me by my first name every time. I can say he was a shining example to the old not to mention the young. Wish there was many more like you Dereck.

    R.I.P. my Friend

  22. Martina says:

Derek was such a kind hearted person. We had some good times together growing up. We will miss his smile and his concern for our family when we would meet together at our assemblies. God has promised us the hope of the resurrection, and we so look forward to that day. Our deepest sympathy to his wife and all our dear friends who knew Derek.

  23. DC says:

I had a feeling that he would be found today. I had the opportunity to work with him at Elbow Beach & ran into him often at Port Royal Gas Station. He was indeed the nicest person you would ever want to meet. Judging by the other comments I’m not the only one who believes that. His wife & family can take some comfort in knowing that their loved one was truly a respected & loved man in the community. We will miss him & that BIG smile! To the family, my deepest condolences.

  24. WTF says:

  25. Pastor Syl Hayward says:

  26. observer says:

Through out our life time, we want to use each day to make a good name for ourselves and to reflect the love our creator has shown us. We all make mistakes, but we know that our heart is in the right place. He will be missed, but he has made it. It is now up to us to do what is right if we wish to see him again in the new system of things that is promised in Isaiah 25:8-9 and my favorate Revelation 21:4-5. What a great hope we have to see him again through Jesus’ ransom sacrifice John 3:16. Knowing that he is sleeping or resting in peace as Eccl 9:5, Ps 146:4 and John 11:11-14 helps us to have comfort. Isn’t it great that he has no longer to put up with this wicked system. He is now peacefully awaiting the time when this earth becomes a paradise as the creator has originally purposed Genesis 1:26-28 and through Jehovah’s love, 1 John 4:9 and perfect memory, Revelation 3:5 he will be resurected back to this earth Luke 23:43 to live forever with all other faithful God fearing brothers and sisters. Angela, stay strong my sister, you have nearly 8 million of us that will not see you wrong, and are here by your side, but even more importantly Isaiah 41:13 promises that Jehovah has grasp your hand, so don’t be afraid he will help you to see Derek again.

Rest in peace my friend, your work is done!

  32. This is a very strange story. I am sorry for the family’s loss. It is too weird that his wife went straight to the body after all those days of divers, coast guard, volunteers, etc. not finding his body. Does anybody else wonder?

    • observer says:

there was nothing to wonder about! she lived there for fourteen years, she understood the currents and winds. The opposite side was searched extensively and nothing found, so put all these things together and it makes sense he was found there.
