Premier Named Honourary Chair, Wins Award

November 22, 2012

Premier Paula Cox was recently named the Honourary Chair of the World Chamber of Commerce [WCC] after attending the international organisation’s economic and environmental summit.

The Premier, made the announcement during her Keynote Address at the Real Estate Division of the Chamber of Commerce’s AGM, which took place Monday, November 19.

The World Chamber of Commerce’s International Economic and Environmental Summit was held in Atlanta, Georgia late last week and the Premier told local real estate professionals gathered for their AGM, that she used the occasion as a prime opportunity to showcase Bermuda’s business prowess to this important trade demographic.

Premier Cox said, “Last week I was appointed the Honorary Chairman of the World Chamber of Commerce at the WCC Economic and Environmental Summit. So we are family now given my role.

“We have even more of an identity of interest. Although it was a personal trip, Bermuda benefitted as it was yet another opportunity to showcase Bermuda and the tangible business opportunities in Bermuda.

“I believe they [the WCC] saw Bermuda as a vacationer’s paradise but had not actually factored in that we were a centre of commerce, whether for energy, capital investment or infrastructure development.”

In addition to being named the Honourary Chair, the Premier was presented with the WCC’s “International Hero Award” for “her leadership in formulating financial policies of global significance in the face of the current economic challenges.”

At the event, the WCC referenced the Premier’s role as Vice Chair of the Organization of Economic Development and Cooperation’s [OECD] Global Forum, and Bermuda’s focused efforts on transparency and exchange of information in financial transactions.

““her leadership in formulating financial policies of global significance in the face of the current economic challenges.”

Have they seen her record financially? What about the “Cog” comment where she seeks to avoid blame for hundreds of millions of lost money?

Who are these people giving these awards?!!!! She has resided over financial ruin for this economy.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Do these people do any due diligence at all before handing out the worthless pieces of paper?

  4. Encyclopedia says:

All these awards and honors did not help the island’s economy or make one bit of difference to the man on the street.

Well, so much for all the awards.

It is just part of a trophy collection to admire after December 17th, when there will be a lot of time on hand.

The last two years will be marked by the unbelievable lack of leadership skills or vision.

  5. Y-Gurl says:

    Did she nomniate herself again?

  6. Just Curious...smdh says:

    oh okay.
“In addition to being named the Honourary Chair, the Premier was presented with the WCC’s “International Hero Award” for “her leadership in formulating financial policies of global significance in the face of the current economic challenges.”…” So how has she worked her magic for Bermuda?

    Ho Hum … yawn…

  8. Pretty P____ says:

Nandi Davis and Toni Daniels should get an honorary award each for being pretty and pretty hotter than Patrice and Lovitta the PLPs only two official Hotties

  9. Vulpes says:

I got to thinking that most of the bad political decisions that have contributed to the present mess can be traced back to Paula Cox – she really is a complete lightweight incapable of thinking three or four moves ahead, which goes a long way in explaining why she seems to like boasting about all these ludicrous, time wasting awards – much more “a cog in the wheel” than she will ever be capable of understanding.

  10. Gatorade Jeff says:

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, this is hilarious. Its getting more like North Korea and Kim Jong-il every day. What next, “PLP awards Paula Cox title of Shining Star of Paektu Mountain”????

    JUST GO NOW!!!!!!

What does this have to do with Bermuda Real Estate….was she just showing off because a group put together in 2008 had a temporary sit in Chair. What happened to being the Paid Premier and Finance Minister jobs she is suppossed to be doing. In it for the accolades and not the the people I guess.

    • Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

how come adverts an stuff about bermy shows all the luxury properties they show the properties of the same people that they dont like …lmfao
any ways…once again the true knowledge of politrics is unbeknown to most…of course she is a cog …each and everyone of them are cogs…that is what makes things work or progress…now the puppet thing was a great example as well…basically telling you on Mainstream Media that this is the extent of your governing bodies…they ARE puppets therefore there IS a Puppeteer(s). i hate to say this but that goes for most govts…You all dont seriously think that those people you picked on voting day has sole control of this island do you ….hahaha…when people invest it is for maximum return ..so if they aren’t investing that should be telling you something….

  12. Mad Dawg says:

This is the only thing she’s interested in. Collecting awards and honours. Not interested in tackling unemployment or debt. She just wants a credenza full of trophies.

  13. 1minute says:

If she spent as much time working for Bermuda as she does picking up worthless awards, Bermuda would be sooooo much better…

    • Family Man says:

You assume she’s competent. Don’t forget, term limits were her idea.

      • Vote for Me says:

        @ Family Man
Do not throw stones… it seems that some in the OBA also think term limits were a good idea.

Look at the recent resignation from the OBA last week!!

  14. PLP for Life says:

    well worth the entrance fee.

    • Vulpes says:

It always bothers me when I find myself at some function and the MC starts to list off all the awards and degrees (usually from some very average school)various honored guests have received rather than what they have in fact done with their lives to date – a very Bermudian trait, I’m ashamed to admit.

  15. Victor says:

I have to wonder if the lady is clinically depressed – this would explain a lot of her behaviours: avoidance strategies, fantasy thinking, unwillingness to own responsibility, etc

  16. Family Man says:

Its so bad now she has to announce her own awards.

  17. Family Man says:

Atlanta. Somebody must have needed a new custom made suit.

  18. argosy says:

    Another PLP (sick) joke!

  19. CHEEKUMS BIE says:

smh you lot are one stupid group of bloggers

  20. non partisan says:

Have a look at their website http://worldchamberc.org/
Most of their events are award ceremonies! lol

  21. Malachi says:

If you added up all of the awards given to Bermuda’s leaders over the past 60 years, she would have more then all of them put together.

She’s the baddest cog in the wheel!

  22. navin johnson says:

and none of her awards are worth anything and Bermuda has sponsored many of the organizations who have presented her with such “prestigious” awards…give us all a break and stand down..

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Sad inna? Bermudians love to be “reCOGnized for doing little or nothing.

  23. JT says:

She didn’t wear one of them hats did she? Please, not the hat.

  24. Opressed says:

A huge blight on Bermuda and ALL her people.

  25. Liars says:

How much did this award cost Bermudians? Really we should know?!

    • JT says:

      1.5 billion – or more.

      • Gatorade Jeff says:

Too true my man, too true. $30k in government debt – every single one of us. Imagine getting your credit card bill with that on it.

  26. Y-Gurl says:

How about we give a title….X- premier

  27. Private Pyle says:

Fail. Awards like this mean nothing. Most of the time it’s friends and associates presenting awards to their friends and associates or the award itself was bought. Not impressed.

How about actually doing the job you are paid to do and do it well.

  28. Encyclopedia says:

New award to be instituted for every $100 million debt over a $1 billion.

The opposition party leader should present that to whoever the Premier of the day is.

  29. Triangle Drifter says:

Where has she been since calling the election, besides traveling the world racking up some more air miles? She has not been seen here. Looks like she is sticking it to those who plot to dethrone her by not being around to get out & see the voters, as difficult that is to picture in the mind.

  30. Um Um Like says:

I’m so proud of you Aunt Paula! Don’t listen to all the haters- keep that wheel spinning!
