Woman Admits Using Stolen BlackBerry
Yesterday [Dec 19] in Magistrates Court, 20-year-old Jasmin Smith pleaded not guilty to stealing a BlackBerry cellphone, but did plead guilty to unlawfully receiving a BB cellphone.
The Crown Prosecutor told Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that the original owner of the phone had reported it as stolen. Following this the stolen phone was used to make calls and post on Facebook by someone using the name “Juicy Black”. The owner reported this unexpected activity to Police.
Ms Smith was arrested on another matter and Police found the phone in her possession. Police confiscated the BB, confirmed that the phone was the one that had been used by Ms Smith, and also found images on the phone that afforded positive identification of Ms Smith.
Accepting her guilty plea, Magistrate Warner remanded her in custody on a Magistrate’s Court remand order. Ms Smith is also facing separate charges relating to an armed robbery.
