Cardinals vs Ravens Women’s Hockey Report
[Written by Jasmine Patterson] Cardinals started a bit short, but were at full capacity minutes into the game against a dominant team of young and experienced players. In the day’s first game, Ravens took control of the match which saw Georgia Harris score off a field goal in the 3rd minute.
Both Cardinals and Ravens created great set plays as they moved the ball up and down the field but it was Ravens who were able to find the back of the goal off a field goal from Megan Troake in the 13th minute. Several short corners were awarded to Ravens and failure to execute two of them were denied by left defender, kaywell outerbridge, who stopped them on the right and left goal line.
With continuous play by both teams and great defending by Jennifer Dziwenka and ‘keeper’ Holly Augustus and play by the Cardinals’ team, disallowed Ravens from advancing their score any further and the result in the first half was 2-0 to Ravens.
In the second half, possession was fairly equal with a slightly improved performance from Cardinals than in the first half. Ravens’ Troake would score her 2nd field goal in the 46th minute to make the score 3-0.
A beautifully executed cross ball by Cardinals’ Iesha Castle from the right side through the ‘d’ would find ‘keeper’ Augustus’ young daughter, Pier Simons who cracked the ball into the left side of Ravens’ ‘keeper’ Laura West-Burt in the 51st minute to make the score 3-1.
Cardinals’ lack of finish would continuously haunt them as Ravens’ Troake would find her hat-trick from a field goal in the 52nd minute that was cracked from the top of the circle high into the top right side of ‘keeper’ Augustus.
A total of ten short corners were awarded to Ravens and defender, Kaywell Outerbridge, again managed to save their third attempt at goal. Many cracks at ‘keeper’ Augustus were brilliantly saved, but with 10 minutes left to go, and with Cardinals becoming quite fatigued, Ravens’ Georgia Harris scored her 2nd field goal in the 60th minute to advance the score of 5-1 where it remained until the end of the game.
