With an interpreter translating for him in Magistrates Court yesterday [Feb 14], Portuguese-speaker Francisco Mendonca, 43, pleaded guilty to driving whilst impaired. He was fined $800 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

On 30th January 2013, riding his motorcycle on South Shore Road near Camden and the Botanical Gardens, Mendonca had smashed into the back of another car.

After Police had attended, and helped by another person who translated for them, Mendonca had been taken to Hamilton Police Station. At the Station the breathalyzer test showed he had over 300mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. Mendonca had not suffered any serious injury.
