The Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB], in conjunction with National Coach David Moore and National Team Head Coach Arnold Manders, has developed what they said was a “thorough and vigorous preparation plan leading up to the following events:
- ICC Regional T20 qualifying event to be held in Fort Lauderdale between the 18 – 22 March
- ICC World Cricket League Division 3 tournament to be held in Bermuda between the 28 April – 5 May
These tournaments have been identified by the BCB as high priority high performance events and both are a pathway to ICC World events.
The squad is currently preparing three days a week under the guidance of National Team Coach Arnold Manders, Assistant Coach Clevie Wade, National Fast Bowling Coach Lorenzo Tucker and Assistant Coach Irving Romaine. The team is practicing indoors at BHS two nights a week, which includes strength and conditioning, technical and tactical work. They are also practicing on Saturdays at various outdoor venues undertaking game sense and tactical practices and fielding activities.
The Bermuda National Squad will undertake a pre-tour camp in Bermuda from the 9 – 13 February before travelling to Barbados for a four match series and training program from the 14 – 21 February. The team will play a series of 50 over and T10 matches against Barbados representative teams to provide critical international match practice.
The National Team will then participate in the ICC Americas Region T20 qualifying event to be held in Fort Lauderdale from 18 – 22 March. The top two teams in this tournament will progress to the World T20 qualifying event to be held in Dubai in November, 2013. From the Americas region Canada has already qualified. USA and Bermuda have previously qualified for this event.
Following this event the BCB has organized with the USA a four-match 50 over series in preparation for the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 tournament. This will be a key part of the preparation plan.
The squad will continue their lead up preparation for the ICC WCL Division 3 tournament by maintaining the regular training program. The National Team will play the Melbourne Cricket Club, Jamaica in a 50 over three match series from 13 at Somerset Cricket Club.
A pre-tournament camp will take place from April 19 to 24 April to be conducted in Bermuda in final preparation for the ICC WCL Division 3 tournament to be held between 28 April to 5 May. The top two teams will progress to Division 2 and be part of the ICC World Cup Qualifying Tournament to be held in New Zealand in 2014.
