February 7, 2013

The police are continuing their investigation into the armed robbery that took place last night [Feb 6], and said an extensive search of the surrounding area was conducted, however the suspect was not located.

As Bernews reported last night, the St David’s Variety store was robbed at gunpoint at around 9.30pm, with the masked suspect holding a gun to the store owner and demanding cash. The store owner and his pregnant daughter were present, and fortunately neither one was injured in the incident.

Speaking this afternoon, a police spokesperson said,”At 9:30pm on Wednesday, February 6th police officers responded to a reported robbery at St. David’s Variety.

“It appears that the store owner and a family member were inside the premises when a lone offender entered brandishing what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money. The offender then fled on foot with a quantity of cash. No one was injured.

“An extensive search of the surrounding area was conducted; however the suspect was not located. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the St. David’s Road area.

“In particular, investigators would like to speak with the driver of a car traveling through the area around the time the robbery occurred.

“Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Sergeant B.T. Smith at the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit directly on 247-1442 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477,” the police concluded.

Last night the store owner said there was a CCTV system in place in the St David’s store. The police have been releasing CCTV images of crimes lately, and it is expected this one may also be  released by the authorities.

  7. Come On Man!! says:

I think we should organize a street militia to protect the citizens of Bermuda like they are doing in Mexico, because the Police don’t seem to be able to do the job.

  8. Come On Man!! says:

These shop owners need to install a bullet proof / shatter proof, second entrance way to be controlled by the person behind the counter. If you have your Helmet on etc, you don’t open the second door until it is removed. If they rob the place you lock the outside door and then the inside door with the press of a button locking the scum in that boxed in area until the Police arrive.

  9. Paradise Lost says:

David I hope you and your daughter are alright. You work so hard to get that shop up and running and this low life scum who doesn’t wanna work, thinks he can just threaten your life and take what he wants. I hope they catch him and beat his a$$. It is way out of control we the people need to take matters in our own hands because the Police cannot handle it. These scums have no fear of getting caught. That’s one reason why its out of control. Key Stone Cops I’m sorry to say.
