World’s Largest Private Yacht Departs Bermuda
The world’s largest super yacht departed Bermuda today [Feb 11] after arriving in Bermuda on January 29th. The ‘Eclipse’ is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and features a vast array of luxurious on-board amenities including two helicopter pads, several jacuzzis, two swimming pools, a private submarine, armour plating, a special missile detection defense system and much more.
The yacht first arrived in St George’s, before making its way to Hamilton where it docked for the remainder of its stay in Bermuda. It left Hamilton this morning, and passed off the east end at about noon today.
You can view additional coverage, photos and videos of both the ‘Eclipse’ and other super yachts that have graced Bermuda’s shores here.
Bon Voyage !
Who CARES?? Unless he is offering to pay my bills and depart from some of his WEALTH I do not CARE!! F…OFF
So narrow minded!
The owner had to pay some fees to Bermuda just for sitting at that dock and I’m sure the owner/passengers/crew spent some money on shore during their stay. Then again, with a$$h0l3s like you around, they probably didn’t care to get off the yacht much.
Also, you cared enough to open the article!
WhistleBlower pay your own bills loser
Rumor has it that the yacht was sold while it was here. That’s why it was here, taking care of the sale. Apparently Abramovich hasn’t used it in a year.
Yo whistle blower, pay ya own bills! He worked for what he has, so stop hating on the guy ya dreamer!!
This is true but have you seen how he made his money? Cant knock him though, hes come a long way from selling rubber duckies.
no one who is that rich got it all from “working hard”
he could pay some of my bills too!
see u guys soon all those business people will be back now as residents now that its no term limits they got their contracts straight they good to go now ,slowly pushing bermudians out, thanks oba
Your comment was so relevant to this article! Thanks for your insight!
Maybe one day you can teach me how to form a sentence.
people like you are the why whistleblower cant pay bills…..
101….”Immigration 101 – Know the Difference Between Term Limits and Work Permits”
read it.
actually rumour has it r.a looked at property on the island. that would be interesting!
That’s not true, it was here to be sold. If RA was on board, it would have been miles offshore, he is unbelievably security conscious. Also did anyone see a private 767 land at Bermuda airport? – thought not. Sorry to burst the bubble, but the boat is 5 years old and he wants a new one.
Yuup, he’s gotta keep up with the Saudi Royal’s in order to have the biggest boat out there.
ummm it is the biggest….
no, its not. Ever heard of Azzam? 180m long, and now out…
try google “yacht azzam”
The rich get rich by stealing from the poor.. I hope he was payin dock fees cause lawd knows if anyone else tried parkin up on that dock we woulda been told to move our vessle.. All the billions of dollars him n the other rich ppl have that register their boats in bermuda and they are trying to avoid taxes which is probably a very minor scratch in their pockets.. Smh I can’t tell.. They burn Bermudian boat owners for registration fees n so on they better b burning them.. Justsaying
No individual or entity should have that much wealth whilst there are people dying of extreme poverty and starvation across the globe.
Agreed…why do we revel in the filthy rich? Why do we admire their “things”. We are a sick human race!
So I guess you have never heard of wealthy:- Bill Gates and his foundation helping to rid the world of polio, increasing education and more. Wealthy:- Oprah Winfrey leading the way with $41 million in donation to charities and more. Wealthy:- Warren Buffett Donated $21.6 Million In 2012. Knowthyself you need to get out of the house more if you think the wealthy do not help the world. How much did you donate to the Salvation Army or any of our charities in Bermuda?
Those are tax write offs for them.
That tax item may or may not be true as to their reason for helping, but the bottom line is , their money in the millions has gone to help the less fortunate and not squirreled away hidden in some bank Remember these points:-
1) The rich do not “HAVE” to give their money away.
2) Because they are not in front of the cameras/media every time they give away millions does not mean they are not doing it.
3) Some wealthy people employ thousands and thousands of people through their businesses and companies, so give them a break from the menial thinking that they just stay at home and count their money and don’t care about anyone else less fortunate.
Well said Arthur!
And how about Bob Geldof and the millions he has raised for Africa, Bono and his work and donations to end end poverty, Elton John and the $300 million he has raised for AIDS research? All these people are stinking rich and could have sat back and done nothing – instead they used their fame for good!
Maybe Rom thinks he did his bit when he donated to Chelsea FC
I hesitate to rush to the defence of someone who owns a team like Chelsea, but there is a lot of nonsense spouted here about how ‘rich people don’t deserve it and never help poor people’.
Roman Abramovich started two major charities in the early 2000′s. He became the governor of a region in Russia, Chukotka, for the period 2000-2008. During that time he spent $1.3bn of his own money in the region on charitable causes, and living standards improved, investors were drawn to the region, and average salaries for ordinary people increased by about 7x. Including the amounts contributed by him personally and his charities, he directed about $2.5bn of charitable spending in the area during his term of office. He was awarded the Order of Honour for his work in the region.
He’s a rich guy, and he’s not perfect by any means. But he has done something concrete, for years, to help ordinary people.
And there is too much credit given to the rich for what little they have done in regards to charity. Especially in a world where billions of people are living without the very basic necessities of life – food, water, housing and sanitation.
Think wisely. And try to see the big picture.
Well, here is a person who worked for 8 years in a job paying zero, and who did hand out billions of dollars, including his own money, to people who needed it.
I think you’re the one who needs to see the big picture.
There are plenty of ordinary people in Bermuda and other places who have all they need and yet never lift a finger to help others. It blows my mind. Yet they’re quick to pee all over the idea that a rich person might actually do something that helps poor or disadvantaged people.
Why should one person have so much while so many have so little? It simply makes no sense Arthur-Atlanta. It does nothing to help this world.
There are over seven billion people living on this earth of which the wealthy account for a small percentage. I believe if one can afford the bare necessities (food, shelter, health care) you’re wealthy as it starkly contrasts to the vast majority of human beings on this planet who are dying of starvation, sickness and genocide each and every day.
You gave me three examples of wealthy capitalists – Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey and Warren Buffet.
Do you really think there donations matter in the large scheme of things? Perhaps they’re all your role models? Sure it’s great P.R. and maybe it helps to free there conscious at night…but you can’t fool the wise Sir.
I’m sure you ate all you needed today, which makes you one of the super-rich. Capitalist.
Yes and admittedly so. “Super-rich is pushing it” but okay. I’m certainly no Roman Abramovich. However if I was I wouldn’t be spending my money on a super yacht when that money could be used to save peoples lives. Would you?
To each his own i guess.
And much like yourself I am wealthy in comparison to those lacking the basic necessities of life. Bermudians overall are quite fortunate from top to bottom. Some more than others of course as disparities do still exist. And probably always will it seems.
Arthur-Atlanta,
you listed 3 rich people.
What is RA doing to help the poor? I think that would be more pertinent…
I wonder how much Bermuda charges a boat like that to dock in Hamilton per day
Oh ‘Yes there is a fee for any big craft like this.
May He continue to be Blessed with even more Prosperity and Abundance.
Sombody I know asked me – what’s the big deal with this Yacht?
Many Bermudians don’t realise that a Yacht of this size and magnitude has the potenial of landing Bermuda a lot
of revenue —– which we need.
Plus the fact that the people on this Yacht must have liked Bermuda in order to stay all this time.
This is most likely what this Yacht had to purchase before departing.
[1] Fuel
[2] Food products
[3] cosmetic’s and other personal items
[4] maintainance components
When you begin to add in how much money was spent elsewhere like Taxi’s,Restaurants,so on the total amout
should be in the thousands of Dollars.
As far as I’m concerned the Govt. of the day should promote yachts like this to hang out in Bermuda all the time.
ditto! I’d love to see a Super Yacht harbour at St George’s!!
I believe that was the plan with the hotel and marina on ordanance island but they could not raise the funding to do it.
oh! shame
Who says they got off the boat?
“a special missile detection defense system”, I wonder, wonder why? Hmm, very interesting!!
I can recall a recent Premier of Bermuda who never went anywhere without a fleet of Police outriders and armed security. I wonder why?
Hey buddy your guess is as good as mine!! Paranoia maybe? Zombies?
