New Name: Atlantic Caregiving Services
Bermuda Executive Services Ltd formal renamed its caregiving division, Bermuda Home Care-Giving Services, to Atlantic Caregiving Services.
Bermuda Home Care-Giving was launched in mid-2012 to meet the growing need for home caregiving in Bermuda as the population ages. Its main goal is to enable senior citizens, people with disabilities and children with special needs to remain in the home environment while getting the care and support they need when families are not in a position to provide it.
The recent announcement by the Bermuda Health Council that there needs to be a reduction in the number of people in the Acute Care Unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital – at an individual cost of $30,000 per month- helped to highlight the need for home caregiving in Bermuda, said BES President Dawn Zuill [pictured].
“We recognized that as the population ages, there will be a growing demand for home caregiving, not only because the supply of nursing homes and medical care is limited and expensive, but also because there are clear health benefits and cost savings associated with people being able to remain in their homes,” said Mrs Zuill.
“The burden of care for seniors often falls on family members or paid caregivers and the emotional and physical strain on the caregiver can be very debilitating,” she added. “Home caregiving also has positive impacts on the health of seniors, and also on children and people with special needs.
“Having someone in the home can prevent accidents and a deterioration in a person’s physical or mental wellbeing. At the same time, the caregiver’s companionship and support to often lonely people – especially after the death of a spouse or partner – can sustain the client’s physical and mental wellbeing.”
Atlantic Caregiving is coordinated by Rebecca Dunkle, a registered nurse with six years experience in caregiving and community care. All caregivers are certified.
Atlantic Caregiving ensures that its caregivers are qualified both academically and emotionally through a rigorous screening process. Before assigning a caregiver to a client, a home assessment is conducted and Atlantic Caregiving works hard to ensure the fit between the client and the caregiver is right.
Mrs Zuill added: “We have been thrilled with the positive response our caregiving service has had since it was first launched, but we are also aware that because there are a number of other services with similar names to Bermuda Home Care-Giving, there has been some confusion between our service and others.
“That’s why we took the decision to change the name to Atlantic Caregiving and to rebrand the service. We look forward to providing providing Bermuda with a high quality service where trust and empathy are critical.”
