BEPRO Hosts “Ready Your Resume” Workshop
Bermuda’s Emerging Professionals [BEPRO], free community workshop held last week at the CedarBridge Academy, proved to be a success, with over 25 volunteers and participants in attendance. Designed to help Bermudians learn how to create a resume, and/or enhance the one they already have, the session focused on practical resource solutions.
Coined, ‘Ready Your Resume’; the session began with a brief and informative presentation by Jennifer Smatt-Adkins, President of Ontru Limited and the Bermuda Human Resources Association. Ms. Smatt-Atkins’ presentation stimulated an active Q&A period and she provided great insight and feedback for those in attendance. Following Ms. Smatt-Adkins presentation, participants were matched with HR professionals from Butterfield Bank, Expertise Limited, and BHRA for one-on-one, hour long tutorials at individual computer stations.
At the end of the session, attendees received a free USB flash drive, sponsored by Digicel, so they could take their newly crafted resumes home with them, together with a number of other useful resource materials.
Both volunteers and participants found the workshop to be useful and relevant. Scott King, Volunteer stated, “I enjoyed being part of the back and forth discussion with the candidates and the volunteers. When you work alone an event like this provides a unique perspective on how other professionals look at job candidates and their resumes.”
Meanwhile another attendee, a stay-at-home mother looking to re-enter the workforce noted; “I am glad I attended the seminar. It provided me with numerous tips on how to make my resume even better. I especially appreciated the one-on-one time with the HR rep to review my current resume. She was very encouraging and I will definitely be implementing her suggestions to improve my resume.”
