Greenslade Selected As “All American Skipper”

May 31, 2013

Bermudian sailor Josh Greenslade was chosen as one of 13 members of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s [ICSA] All American Skippers for the 2012/13 school year.

“All American” honors are awarded annually to the nation’s top college sailors following the completion of the national championships which this year, were held in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Greenslade, a former Bermuda Optimist Dinghy Association [BODA] star, received an “All American” honorable mention last year. Former Bermuda resident and BODA sailor Johnny Norfleet, a graduating senior at Hobart William Smith College, was also chosen as an “All American” skipper.

This year Greenslade helped the St. Mary’s College of Maryland sailing team take second place at the ICSA/APS Team Race National Championship that completed on Monday, May 27, following three days of racing [May 25 - 27] on Tampa Bay out of the Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove. The 14 teams that started the national championships were in contention for the prestigious Walter C. Wood Trophy. This is St. Mary’s second year in a row placing second at the championships.

Head Coach, Adam Werblow commented, “We capped off our season with a week-long training session with the Naval Academy and they really pushed us to perform under pressure. Our dedicated alumni even flew in from around the globe, in some cases, to help us train. It is hard to imagine that we could have reached the podium without them.”

Bermudians and former BODA sailors, Kyle Burgess and Mackenzie Cooper will be joining Greenslade at St. Mary’s in September. Olympian Jesse Kirkland is a graduate of St. Mary’s and was 4 year “All American” for the college.
