May 24th Holiday Household Garbage Collection

May 22, 2013

The Waste Management Section of the Ministry of Public Works said that household garbage collection will change during the week of the Bermuda Day public holiday.

A statement from the Dept. said, “In the west end household garbage will be collected on the usual collection days, Monday, May 20 and Thursday May 23rd. In the east end household garbage will be collected on Tuesday, May 21st and Wednesday May 22nd. Household recycling is collected every other week and will be collected on Thursday May 30th [west end] and Friday May 31st [east end].

“Due to the volumes of waste and recycling generated during holiday celebrations the Waste Management section would also like to take this opportunity to encourage members of the public to include trash and recycling bags when packing picnic items. By bagging waste and recyclables and placing them next to public bins Parks and Collections workers can more efficiently keep our beaches and Park areas clean for all to use.”

  1. James C says:

Now how much trash will I make in one day, from Tuesday to Wednesday? Why not make East collection Thursday and West on Wednesday? My next collection will be 5 days later and after all my Holiday celebrations.

  2. Alicia says:

As usual, this is not a logical schedule. It would be much better suited for West end Monday and Wednesday and the East end do Tuesday and Thursday

  3. Prayerful says:

Well, as usual, there was no collection in the East End on Tuesday. How silly to say that collection will be on TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY, when even on regular days trash is not collected on Tuesdays.

It is too late now, but a better solution would have been: Monday and Wednesday and Tuesday and Thursday.

We will get it right one day. Maybe by the June holiday.
