Next Week: SAGE Commission Public Meetings
The Spending and Government Efficiency [SAGE] Commission today extended an invitation to members of the public to attend meetings the Commission will be holding later this month.
SAGE Commission Chairman Brian Duperreault said the meetings have been organized to offer the public an opportunity to share their ideas for reducing the cost of running the Bermuda government and for increasing its accountability.
“When the SAGE Commission members discussed ways to involve the community in our review of the government, we agreed that the dialogue about how to create a more modern, efficient and accountable government should be an inclusive one,” said Mr. Duperreault. “We also agreed that we wanted to offer as many options for participation as possible. So we established three ways to submit suggestions: on our website; in private sessions; and at public meetings.
“We’ve scheduled the meetings at three locations – one at the west end of the Island, one at the east end and one in the central parishes. We’re keen to hear from the public and hope as many people as possible will attend one or more of these meetings.”
The first public meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at St. James Church Hall in Somerset; the second will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at Penno’s Wharf, St. George’s; and the third will be held on Thursday, May 30 at Peace Lutheran Church Hall on South Road in Paget. All meetings will begin at 7:00pm.

I think one way to save money is to legislate that people convicted of crime do not get to use tax payer monies to hire overseas QCs! This can actually cost in the area of one million dollars!
I sent in my idea, and have not heard anything yet. Been over 2 weeks now. When I sent it in via e-mail, I got a reponse that said someone would contact me soon. I guess soon hasn’t come yet.
I hope the venues will be large enough.
