Photos: Elliot Afterschool Tom Thumb Wedding
The Elliot Afterschool Program held a Tom Thumb Wedding on Thursday [May 2], at the Old Christ Church in Devonshire.
“May is heritage month and Mrs. Vanessa Steede, careworker and Supervisor’s second, thought it would be fitting to coordinate a reenactment of a Traditional Bermuda Wedding for the students of the Afterschool Program”, a spokesperson said. “It was discussed how traditional Weddings were held on Thursday afternoon because business establishments were closed half days.”
The event started off with the bride and bride’s father arriving in a blue 1998 BMW convertible. Elliot ASP staff and other guests were gathered inside awaiting the ceremony in their traditional dresses and big bright hats. The church was decorated in fern and paper flowers designed by careworker, Ms. Mickey Butterfield who also crafted the bouquets and corsages.
After the ceremony, the reception took place in the hall with refreshments that consisted of assorted sandwiches, sliced fruit and plain cake with fruit punch organized by Supervisor Mrs. Gloria Tucker. “The afternoon beamed of success as guests thoroughly enjoyed the traditional event and atmosphere”, the spokesperson said.
Special thanks was given to Rev. Cannon Francis, Mrs. V.Steede – Coordinator, Mrs. G. Tucker – Elliot Supervisor, Ms. M.Butterfield – Decorator, Other Elliot ASP Staff, Mr. Ming – Transportation, Miss E.Richardson – Invitations, Mrs. L.Ingham – Photographer, Elliot P4 Marshall and family members who assisted.
