Symposium: The Triple Link To Saving Our Girls

The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Bermuda Alumnae Chapter is hosting an education symposium entitled: The Triple Link to Saving our Girls on Thursday [May 30] specifically for middle/high school females.  There is no admission fee.

“There is so much effort towards helping our young men [and rightfully so], we need to remember that our young ladies are often very much involved with the organized crime/gang for a number of reasons and we have outstanding panelists who are willing to address these issues”, a spokesperson said.

In addition to this event, the group are hosting a week of events to commemorate their Centennial Anniversary. Chair, Kara Simmons said, “Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Bermuda Alumnae Chapter has joined forces with diverse individuals, service based administrators, and community based organizations to host a Public Symposium entitled, The Triple Link to Saving our Girls”.

This educational symposium is centered on young women and issues with crime, education deficiency, teen pregnancy, drugs, gang involvement and family issues. It will take place at the St. Paul’s A.M.E Church on Court Street from 6.00pm to 8.00pm on May 30.

This will be a three part event:

  • D- Discussing the issues (Panelist discussion)
  • S- Strategizing for a better tomorrow (Question & Answer period)
  • T- Targeting action that create change (Organizational Consultants)

“The panel for the night will include a prison officer, social worker, parent who has been impacted by gang violence and teenage mother. Panel members will discuss the above mentioned matters that have direct implications on our young girls and how various agencies can coordinate efforts and solutions to combat such”, the spokesperson continued.

“Audience members will furthermore have chief involvement throughout the evening. Students who attend the Symposium will receive community service hours. Light refreshments will be served”.
