Bermuda To Compete In Under 15 CONCACAF
The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football [CONCACAF] announced the competitors and details of the inaugural CONCACAF Under-15 Championship, to be held in the Cayman Islands from 14-25 August.
Twenty-two nations — including Bermuda — from across the region will participate in the tournament, an initiative of CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb with a view towards strengthening the game at the youth levels among all of the Confederation’s members.
“We are proud to host such an impressive number of our member associations for this inaugural under-15 tournament, which will give the Confederation’s younger stars the chance to demonstrate their talents on a larger pan-regional stage,” said President Webb.
“It is our belief that supporting youth football by every possible means is fundamental to the widespread development of our sport across the region and the world. Through this tournament we hope to take an important further step towards assuring substantial opportunity for all of our Confederation’s youth.”
Participating teams in the inaugural under-15 event come from across the Caribbean and Central America, and include Aruba, the Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Martin, St. Maarten, St. Vincent, Trinidad & Tobago, and the US Virgin Islands.
The competition will take place in three venues on Grand Cayman, with teams set to be divided into various groups. The top sides will qualify to a knockout round which will yield the regional champion at this level.
Great competition but the real story should say that the BFA is requiring each Parent to pay $1400 for their child to go and play for BERMUDA. Where is that part of the story Richard Todd?? BFA is pathetic………
As a parent of a son involved in this age group, Mr. Todd informed us of the opportunity to participate in this event. He articulated quite clearly the benefit of participating in this event to help prepare for next years tournament, and the challenge that there is not money budgeted or available to fund participation.
The choice was given to parents to express their interest, and associated costs were stated. CONCACAF is helping with some expenses and the remainder of the costs to travel, parents like myself have elected to pay, with the help of fundraising events organized by the BFA.
We either can stay home and complain when we go to the U17 tournament next year about the lack of preparation, or we can collectively work to ensure that we do the best to give the team a chance to succeed.
I for one appreciate the approach and efforts Mr. Todd has brought toward helping provide travel opportunities for the National Academy teams. Keep up the good work!!!
