City Of Hamilton Code Of Conduct Approved
The City of Hamilton announced the Code of Conduct governing the behavior of Council members has been approved.
Mayor of Hamilton Graeme Outerbridge stated, “When we took office last year, the Council reviewed all documentation pertaining to running the City of Hamilton. We found the Code of Conduct that was in place was not sufficient.
“Working with the Secretary to the City of Hamilton, Mr. Edward Benevides and outside consultants we created a document that we feel carries heft and is appropriate for a board responsible for setting the policies of a city.
“It is our view that the Code of Conduct, as revised, should be enshrined in legislation so all Councils going forward would be required to sign this document. Adding the document to the Municipalities Act will ensure there is a clear understanding of what the Council’s obligations are to fellow board members, the staff and the stakeholders of the City.”
Well let us see this new Code of Conduct and the changes you’ve made and why.
…Like a TV show….saying what it hopes to do means very little …you have got to see the show.
Too funny.
Fahy threatens to legislate a code of conduct for the CoH and the next week Graeme makes a show of signing the “revised” document.
But still keeps the document secret.
trying to justify their request for a bigger salary. glad i wore my boots today
Can we see a before and after plus a summary of how much these changes (i.e. outside consultants) cost taxpayers?
Actually the City asked Minister Fahy to enshrine the code in the amended COH Act.The old code and the new code can be found on the COH Website.
Just to clarify Graeme, did you ask before or after Mr. Fahy suggested legislating the code of conduct as reported in the media on June 13th.
Perhaps you can share the link for both the old and the new codes of conduct Graeme.
I’m sure you were being open and helpful when you advised us to check but searching for them on the Corporations website is a bit like trying to find the BIU’s audited accounts for 2011.
Coh website http://Www.cityhall.bm select the “about us” then “elected officials”.
Attachment PDFs at the bottom.
Nope. No sign of them there. After all the officials’ bios there’s only the options to | contact us | legal | login |
Legal is just the standard legal disclaimer.
Do you need to login to see them?
They’re not under “Elected Officials” but “Running for Office” at the bottom.
See http://cityhall.bm/about/running-office
and the actual documents are:

It’s called *Google* folks!
I wonder if the code includes returning taxpayers phone calls, emails or meeting requests
An exercise in time wasting!
To answer your question…Yes we asked before the article and provided the code directly to the Minister. All the best^^
For starters ….
What is the Corporation’s Elected Members’ Substance Abuse Policy? Where is it posted online?
When and why would it be necessary for a member to need a Corporation car?
Why do the current members not feel it necessary to “treat any staff employed by the Corporation with courtesy and respect” (per language from the previous Code)?
If “Members should keep confidential information in a secure compartment or receptacle on a daily basis at the close of each business day” why was the lease permitted to leave the premises?
Why is there no requirement to keep an accurate record of all Corporation meetings, deliberations & decisions?
Why must the Mayor (or his sole delegate) be the only conduit for release and approval of information to taxpayers?
The code might have grown in pages but it appears short on best practices. Why?
