Men’s Health Screening Offers Free Testing
Acting Health Minister Sylvan Richards officially opened the Men’s Health Screening which provided men over 40 years of age with essential health screenings and access to educational materials about diseases to which they may be prone.
The screenings took place at the Seventh-Day Adventist Hall on King Street.
This event was sponsored by Movember.bm. The annual Movember fundraising campaign raises funds to support local men’s health initiatives such as the Men’s Health Voucher giving uninsured and underinsured men the opportunity to receive an annual check-up with their physician and the Men’s Screening Clinic giving uninsured and underinsured men access to vital health screenings.
At the opening Mr. Richards said: “It gives me great pleasure to officially open today’s Health Screening Day for Men.

“This initiative is made possible by the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, which has collaborated with the Department of Health and the Bermuda Heart Foundation, the Bermuda Diabetes Association, and Open Airways.
“We know statistically that many men do not visit their doctors on a regular basis and also that they die between four to seven years younger than women.
“Armed with the knowledge that heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and lung diseases are the major health concerns for our community, the organizations are offering a full slate of free screenings today and are encouraging men 40 years and older to take advantage of this opportunity and to be proactive regarding their health.”
