Mrs Marion Tatem Celebrates 90th Birthday
Mrs Marion Tatem celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday [June 9] with a party at St Mary’s Church Hall in Warwick, where she was surrounded by most of her seven children, sixteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The mother of Sandy Butterfield, Patsy Cook, Johnny Powell, Frankie Powell, Janie Smith, Deborah Ferguson, and Judy Benevides, Mrs Tatem still serves as an active volunteer, and can often be found manning the front desk at the KEMH performing her Pink Lady duties.
Mrs Tatem’s daughter Sandy Butterfield — known for her work in both the entertainment field and with the Focus Counselling Centre — provided some steel pan musical entertainment.
Talking about the changes that her mother had lived through and seen, Mrs Butterfield said that she had first used the telephone when Bermuda had wall-hung telephones that worked on a ‘party-line’ and now she was using a cell phone. She said that as a wife and mother, she had started out with a ribbed ‘washboard’ to wash family clothes.
Premier Craig Cannonier and his wife stopped by to extend birthday greetings to Mrs Tatem, and she also received well wishes from friends and family in the USA, UK, Canada, Austria, and Australia via Skype.

What a wonderful family many of whom I call my good friends. I have great admiration for the love that abounds in this family starting with Mrs. Tatem!
