YAO Cal Ripken & Babe Ruth League Results
YAO Cal Ripken League action continued at the YAO Ball Park at Southside this weekend with the Red Sox and Phillies played the morning game, combining for 36 hits as the Red Sox pulled out the win in an exciting game that could have gone either way 22-20.
Phillies came out scoring in the top of the 1st going up by ten, the Phillies were led by Jack Martin and Dariyon Davies, the Phillies then scored 3 more in the top of the 2nd, making it 12-2. Sam Resnik came in to the game to pitch in the middle of the 2nd and shut down the Phillies attack over the next 3 1/3 innings, striking out 4 and giving up 2 earned runs. The Red Sox came right back in the bottom of the 2nd scoring 10 themselves and scoring another 10 in the 5th inning to go onto the win.
In the afternoon match-up, the Mets defeated the Orioles 14-3. In their first at bat the Mets came out swinging to earn 5 runs and followed with 4 more in the bottom of the second. Strong pitching by Mets anchor Stephon Paynter and defensive action by catcher Kalae Fox held the Orioles offense to no runs through the third. The Orioles leveraged strong pitching by Liam McCue and rallied in the 4th but could not overcome the Mets lead.
In the Babe Ruth League, the Orioles bounced back from their 2-game slide to defeat the Athletics 10 – 7.
The Athletics struggled at the plate, however managing to end up with a total of 7 runs. Donovan Stubbs kicked it into gear first hitting a sharp line drive to first base in the 4th. Stubbs, on his next at-bat however was able to line another shot to right field garnering him a triple.
The Orioles pulled it together this week after losing 2 in a row. The big bat of Jade Spencer was awakened today as Spencer had a single, triple, walk and 4 RBI. Chris Ricca and Liam Evans both had 3 hits on the day, Ricca with single and Evans with doubles. Ricca also stole 4 bases and Evans had 3 RBI.
