Construction Worker Pinned Under Payloader
[Updated] At just past 1pm today [July 4] police, fire and ambulance personnel responded to the Bailey’s Bay area, after receiving a report that a man was “pinned under a payloader.”
Fire Service spokesperson Lt. Leonard Davis said, “At approximately 1.14pm today, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service received a call reporting a person was pinned under a vehicle at Island Quarry.”
“The Fire Service responded and arrived at 1.26pm to find that the person had been freed prior to our arrival,” said Lt. Davis.
“The victim’s injuries were assessed, and he was transported to KEMH for further observation. The Bermuda Police Service was also on scene and gave their assistance.”
When asked for details of what occurred, Lt. Davis said that the man was “pinned under a payloader,” and that no one else was reported to be injured.
Update 3.40pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 1:30pm on Thursday, July 4th police officers and fellow first responders attended the scene of a reported industrial accident in the Ducks Puddle Drive, Hamilton parish area.
“It appears that a 58 year old local male construction worker became trapped between heavy machinery. He was eventually freed and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is apparently being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.”
Update 10pm: The 58-year-old man is listed in stable condition
