Maritime Administration Accepted Into QUALSHIP
Minister of Economic Development Dr Grant Gibbons today said that the Bermuda Government Department of Maritime Administration [DMA] has been accepted into the United States Coast Guard [USCG] ‘QUALSHIP 21’ programme.
The “Qualship 21” acceptance is given by the US Authorities to those Maritime Administrations that prove their exceptional commitment to safety and quality of their fleets.
Dr. Gibbons said: “Acceptance into the QUALSHIP 21 programme is great news for Bermuda and a testament to the dedication and hard work of the staff in the DMA. There are stringent standards that ships of a particular flag state have to meet on a consistent basis to qualify for this award. It is the task of our own surveyors to visit and inspect the ships and ensure that the quality of the Bermuda fleet is maintained at a high standard.”
“Being included in the QUALSHIP 21 programme will be of great benefit to ship owners on the Bermuda register as when arriving in the United States ports they will not be ‘targeted’ for inspection by the USCG Port State Control Authorities,” said a Ministry spokesperson.
