Day #2: Tennis Tournament In Santo Domingo
All six Bermuda junior tennis players continued taking part in the JITIC 2013 Tennis Tournament in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic on Sunday [Aug 4].
Day Two was the final day of Round Robin, the day was a good one for Billy Boyle in the Under 16 Age Group Division as he booked his spot in the main draw, joining Courtland Boyle who qualified the day before.
Billy Boyle was a lot sharper in all areas of his game today. He went for his favorite shots as usual and made a number of winners, but the key factors were limiting his errors. He was quite pleased with the straight sets win over Andrew Bicknell of Jamaica.
Nicholas Lines added a measure of respect to his play by winning his final Round Robin match although having to go three sets to do so, his opponent Dylan Walker of the Bahamas mounted a comeback to take the second set by taking to the net on numerous occasions.
The lone loss to the Under 16 team came with Courtland Boyle going down in straight sets to the higher ranked player in the group Armando Gandini of the host country. Boyle felt he had some opportunities but just couldn’t capitalize on them.
The main draw matches begin Monday morning, while the Consolation Division will begin on Tuesday. The Consolation will be hotly contested as well with the first round losers from the main draw being inserted into the consolation group.
Meanwhile the Under 14 Division Singles Round Robin section is over as well and now it’s time for the brackets.
Ben Lines advanced to the Main Draw after winning his only match of the day to finish with a 2 & 1 record, while Luke Stirling and Dylan Powell will play in the Consolation Bracket.
