Video: Troika’s Festival Performance Highlights
[Updated] TROIKA Bermuda recently returned from their international performance debut at the 2013 National Black Theatre Festival [NBTF] in North Carolina, which attracts more than 65,000 people over the six days.
TROIKA’s production ‘Misunderstood’ was selected as one of the 30 main stage productions to be featured at this year’s festival from out of over 130 entries from theatre companies throughout the USA, Canada, Africa and the Caribbean.
‘Misunderstood’ is a 90 minute theatrical play with music, about a group of forsaken students who look for their purpose and meaning in a world that seems to only want to confine their dreams and passions. It ran for 4 performances at the festival.
A look at TROIKA’s performance at the festival:
TROIKA Bermuda is a registered charity whose mission is to educate, enlighten and entertain by producing theatre experiences, as they believe that art, fun and education work in tandem to help to cultivate young minds and afford opportunities to young people to learn about their history, invaluable life lessons and necessary values.
Update: In addition to performing main stage, The TROIKA Players also attended productions, participated in the Youth Talent Showcase, workshops, auditions and the midnight poetry slam. After submitting video entries, 5 entries were selected to perform in the Youth Talent Showcase, but 4 were selected to continue on into the finals. Out of the TROIKA Players who participated in the Youth Talent Showcase, Kameron Burgess placed third overall for his amazing dance performance.
Shoa Bean said, “Seldon and I are very proud of the cast and crew of the international performance of MISUNDERSTOOD, and are humbled by the opportunity to be a part of such a festival.”
TROIKA Bermuda would like to thank the following sponsors for their support: The Ace Foundation, The Bermuda Arts Council, Bacardi, former Premier Dr Ewart Brown, The Berkeley Educational Society (Bermuda Sponsors) and Branch Banking & Trust Company (US Sponsor). Gratitude was also extended to the numerous individual donors, volunteers friends and family!

This is a great story and a great way to start my day. I hope they are planning to perform here in Bermuda so I can see it for myself.
This play was performed locally. The sold out performances of ‘Misunderstood’ were originally staged at The City Hall Theatre in 2012.
Once again excellent. Loved the feedback provided in the film clip after the show…..first class.
Loved it #Troika. What great feedback from overseas attendants, you should be proud of what you are putting forward with the help of great young talent.. Round of applause to the cast and directors.
Absolutely wonderful news to read this morning! The individuals that run this charity and organized things for this international trip are young themselves; and my hat goes off to a job well done! CONGRATULATIONS TROIKA!
Big up to my Troika fam! Love you guys….we are all part of the Human Heart! *we daaance!!!*
Congratulation to Troika, I am so proud of your achievements.
It is unbelievable that with such a great opportunity for our young people and Government did not make any contribution or even give recognition. Is it because Ewart Brown made a donation or because it is the Black Theatre Festival.
This would have been a good advert for tourism. They did not even see fit to give any promotion materials or any in-kind support.
I travelled from Bermuda just to see the show. I think Government underestimated the magnatude of the Festival and this accomplishment.
Disappointed in OBA.
“Is it because Ewart Brown made a donation or because it is the Black Theatre Festival.”
Did he? Last I checked he wasn’t the minister of Youth, Sport and Recreation.
But well done on making this both political AND about race!

Dr. Brown did not have to be the Minister to make a donation. In spite of what you think Dr. Brown is very benevolent.
