Photo Set #1: Students Head Back To School
[Updating with photos] The island’s school students returned to school this morning [Sept 6], with some of the little ones making their very first foray into “big school”, while the older students are returning after their summer break.
The Bernews cameraman rushed around but was only able to get to a few schools, so if you have photos of your children heading back to school please feel free to email us at info@bernews.com so we can continue to add photos to the gallery as the day progresses. View more photos in Set #2 here.
Acting Minister of Education, Leah Scott today expressed her thanks to all involved in ensuring that 34 schools open successfully today.
Minister Scott stated, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff of the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Education Facility Manager and his staff, the Custodians, Principals, teachers and school staff for all of their efforts to prepare our schools for students.
“The cars and bikes of our Principals, teachers, school staff and in some cases parents, in school parking lots late at night all this week is a testament to the commitment our educators and staff have towards our children.”
“The condition of the buildings also attests to the hard work of our custodians and all of the workmen both from Government and the private sector who have been hard at work in our schools. As a result, I just want to say thank you to them all.”
“I also wish all of our staff and students a successful year and encourage our parents to support our schools.”

Any idea whats up with the motocross gear in the last picture? What does that have anything to do with kids going back to school on the first day?
Just a quick question, why is someone always “acting minister of education” where is the minister, why is he always missing?
@prayerful his body language says he is boss and you better get over it.
@ Just a Question, The motorcross is a teacher dresses up as ‘something’ every year. It is the theme that she covers every year. The students and many parents always look forward to what she will do. Perhaps have the school has special events, you can go and visit. For example, for Christmas on year, she dressed as a Christmas Tree.
